Not even 2 minutes after I pull into Simon Kenton parking lot my best friend, Kamie, starts sprinting to my car. When she slams into the hood, her face is red and she's huffing like she just ran five miles.
"Woah. You alright there? You've never run that fast in your whole life!" I say sarcastically.
"Shut up!" she said laughing.
Kamie's beautiful. She has light brown eyes, dark brown hair, and some of the tannest skin in the school. Her body is slim, like mine, but she makes her's work better.
"You look mad. What's the matter? You're never mad unless someone says something about your family."
"I'm fine. There was just this guy that almost rammed into me when I was dropping off Jace," I lied.
She narrowed her eyes at me. She always knew when I was lying, but never said anything.
"We'll come on. We haven't got all day." She said as she skipped away, toward the group we hang out with. Laughing I followed her to a very, very tired looking Dallas.
"Hey Dallas!" I yelled as I ran the rest of the way there.
"Ugh, hi," he said as he lifted his coffee cup.
Dallas and I have been friends since we were three and played on the same soccer team for a while. He's a tall, Hispanic with deep dark brown eyes. My mom and his dad died of the flare around the same time.
"I see you're wearing the AOT shirt I got you." I said. His birthday was two days ago.
He perked up immediately. " Yeah! Dude it's like my favorite shirt!" He said.
"TWINNIE!" We all looked toward the voice. It was Nicki. Dallas and her have the same birthday, that's the only reason she yelled twinnie. She wouldn't have yelled it if we weren't the only people waiting for school to open. She ran from her parking space and tripped on the steps. We all went to help her with her stuff when we stopped laughing. She was always so uncoordinated when it came to feet, but in water she was as graceful as a swan. So obviously she's a swimmer, not a runner.
Nicki walked the rest of the way up the steps wincing when she put her right foot down.
"You alright Nicki?" asked Kammie.
"Yeah. It's not my swimming leg I'm all good!" She said cheerfully. "Estelle, how's your application for Eastern Tennessee going?" she asked me.
"Good but I feel as if I'm missing some thing," I replied.
"Well let me see it tomorrow!"
Nicki smiled. Her smile was white as can be. She had just gotten her braces off and can't stop opening her mouth. Other than her teeth she has short blonde hair the falls just around her shoulders. Her green eyes pop out of her lightly tan skin. I'm the only red headed, pale skinned one, but I guess it's alright.
As we talk a strange black car pulls up in the parking lot and parks in a visitor spot. I know every car on this school, but I've never seen this one before. The windows are deeply tinted,so I can't look inside to see of it's a new sophomore or not.
I nudged Kammie and tilted my head toward the car. She looked and tilted her head at me as if to say what's the problem with a car.
"Kammie I've never seen that car before here." I whispered.
"Let it go! You already have a lot you have to take care of from Jace to school. It's not your job to keep the school in check too. Now let's go to newspaper, I need to finish my article on horses."
"Fine," I mumbled following her.
