KAY
Kay and Lana had finally arrived at a place Lana called "Camp Half-Blood".On the way there, She had explained to Kay that the Greek gods were real and one of her parents was one, and Camp Half-Blood was where all the other children of the gods stayed.
Naturally, Kay had asked who she was a daughter of, and Lana had explained that at the latest, she'd know when she was 13.
"So um.. Lana, I see you're half goat.. how is that?"
Kay thought Lana had ignored her, but she replied a minute later.
"The politically correct term is Satyress."
"Oh um. Okay?"
Lana brought Kay to a man that was half horse.
He introduced himself as Chiron, and behind him in a rocking chair sat a chubby man with a can of coke.
As soon as Lana saw him, she bowed deeply until the man let her up.
"My Lord Dionysus," she greeted him.
"I found the demigod. Her mother did as expected, turned her into the asylum."
Dionysus looked down at Lana and she bowed again.
"Wonderful," he drawled, unimpressed, "More brats I have to look after, just splendid."
Kay was surprised.
She'd been busted out of an asylum and brought all the way here, just to be unwanted? It made no sense.
Kay's mother taught her not to stay anywhere she wasn't welcome. And obviously, this person did not want her here.
Dionysus suddenly leaned forward in his rocking chair.
"I inquire who it is exactly your eyes are glaring at."
Kay hadn't realized she'd been glaring, but then again, her face always mirrored her emotions.
"You," she said defiantly, tilting her chin up.
Lana bleated loudly, grabbed Kay's arm, and started to firmly lead her away.
Dionysus's voice boomed from behind them.
"You prideful girl! Do not disrespect an Olympian!"
Kay was about to say something else, but Lana pulled her arm along even faster.
"Are you insane?!" Lana shouted.
"Dionysus will kill you!"
Kay crossed her arms.
"He obviously doesn't want me at this camp, Lana. I don't like to be where I'm not wanted."
Lana flicked her in the ear.
"N-nonsense!" She bleated again. "You have to stay here. You're a demigod! You'll be eaten by a cyclops!"
A cyclops.
"Okay," Kay settled, after a moment of silence.
"This isn't real. I'm hallucinating."
Kay had never hallucinated, but she was sure this was one
Lana's face was wiped clean. She portrayed no emotions.
"Everything is real Kay."
Lana was right. No one hallucinated anymore. It was so last season. Get with the program! She scolded herself.
Kay nodded at the Satryess. "Real"
Lana still looked weirded out by Kay, but she took her to the "Hermes Cabin." Apparently, that's where all the non claimed people went.
"You'll be staying here, until you're claimed," Lana had mumbled while eyeing a trash heap.
Kay had a ton of questions. How long would she be here? Where were the restrooms? Would she be able to contact Lana if anything went wrong? She tried to make a sentence to voice all of her questions, but it was no good. Lana's lips had already parted.
"I'm sure you'll settle in nicely. Exuse me."
Lana made herself comfortable in the garbage and began to nibble on a soda can.
So much for her help.
Kay wiped her face. Pulled her shirt down. She wanted to make a nice first inpression with the people she'd be spending her time with. She had to look cool, calm, collected. Kay swept the mass of braids on her head to one side of her shoulder and walked into the Hermes cabin with her head up high, determined to make these people see her as a figure of authority.
Once Kay opened the doors, only a few people noticed her at first. Then a few more. Se continued to stand at the entrance. Heads continued to turn until a older boy with curly brown hair walked up to her. He was tall, about.. 5'9? He looked down to meet her eye level.
"Hi. I'm Connor, head counselor. Who are you?"
Kay was nervous. Very, Very, nervous. But she took her time composing herself before answering. She would show no outer signs of panic. She'd taken so many deep breaths she was sure Connor thought she was hyperventilating.
"I'm Kay," She said at last, "Lana said I was supposed to stay here."
Connor stretched his shoulders. "Ah, undecided eh?"
She nodded once. Once was professional.
He turned away from her slightly and called over his shoulder.
"Travis!"
An identical copy of Connor appeared at his side.
"Do we have anymore bunks?"
"Some in the back," Travis said, his hand dipping in Connor's pocket quickly.
Connor didn't even seem to notice.
"Excuse me."
They both looked surprised to have heard Kay speak.
"Your brother, Connor, just pickpocketed you."
Travis looked confused, but Connor just smiled and held out his hand.
Travis dropped what he'd stolen, a key, into Connor's hand, and looked at her questioningly.
"How'd you see that? I did it so fast, there was no way you should've seen that."
"Travis, you're not always the best at stealth." Connor chuckled.
He shrugged.
"So, I'll show you where to put your stuff and your bed and uh, yeah. That should be good."
