~based on season 6 episode 21, Point of View~

"Mac, what the hell are you doing here? I told you I got this," I told my husband as he walked out of the elevator with Peyton. I knew her from the ME's office. She was one of the pathologists at the lab before going back to England.

Stella and I were talking about a case in the hallway when Mac and Peyton came up to the lab. Callie was asleep, curled up in a sling.

"I have a lead on the case you caught yesterday, and I want to help," he told me, giving the best hug he could give, taking into account the broken ribs and Callie in the sling.

"Like hell you will, Mac Taylor, go sit somewhere," I said. His breathing was slightly labored because of the broken ribs he sustained in a bad fall. I was glad Flack was there.

~time skip~

Mac and I were in our shared office, and I was laying into him.

"I told you to stay home! You're recovering from a bad fall, Mac. I can take care of the lab and make sure Adam doesn't blow anything up. I can keep this place running." 

"I know, but you've also got Calliope, and helping me out with stuff," he countered.

"I don't care. I can handle."

"And to add to that, you told me your mental health has been off lately."

"So?" I looked down at my desk, arranging some file folders.

Mac was looking at me, and so was Callie, from her rocker. Her gaze didn't hold the same weight as my husband's, though.

"Cat."

I ignored him. Mac was right. The depression was getting bad again, and I was anxious over so many things. Mac's injuries and running the lab while he was recovering, mainly.

"Catherine," he said, concerned.

Looking up into his light blue eyes, I saw understanding and worry. He knew when I was getting bad.

"I'll be ok, Mac," I reassured him.

"Ok." He was still looking at me expectantly.

"What?"

"This is the part where you normally start crying," he told me.

"You're right," I said shakily, looking up again to meet his gaze, "but I can't. Not right now. You have a lead for me."
