TW: Fear, Anxiety

Virgil's POV

I shot up in my bed alarmed after that strange dream. I look around at my room and am instantly confused. When did everything get so dark? The grey walls I've grown up with were now covered in posters, pictures, and stickers, leaving little empty space. I gazed up at the purple fairy lights hovering above me, the shades a little darker than I would have liked, but that's okay. Basically the only thing I recognize are my Nightmare Before Christmas posters hanging up.

What the hell?

Maybe dad thought I would like this and decided to redecorate for me before he left last night? Last night.. Last night..

WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?

I rip off the blanket covering me and look down to see the clothes I wore yesterday. I turn and swing my legs over the side of the bed and there, at my feet, are my shoes and the drawstring bag from last night. And that's when I remember.

I fell into a lake, and then woke up here. And god, that dream! It was so realistic, that other me..

Heh, that guy would probably fit pretty well in this ro-

My thoughts were interrupted as I jumped at the roaring alarm clock at the bedside table. Wait what? Alarm clock? I've never needed to set an alarm clock. I look at the time, 7:20. Oh geez! I need to get to school.

I rush up to the dresser and glance in the mirror. I look surprisingly fine, despite falling into a lake, that could have just about anything lingering within. I open one of the drawers and it's an endless pit of dark clothing. Dad, really?

After digging through that abyss, I finally ended up with a white shirt and a pair of ripped jeans. I tie yesterday's hoodie around my waist, throw the same pink high top converse I usually wear on, and brush my hair and teeth.

I open the drawstring bag and pull out my phone and earbuds. Okay I get why my phone is fine, it's waterproof, but my earbuds shouldn't work or something right? I plug in the earbuds to my phone and turn it on. My lockscreen is filled with text messages from an unknown number. I brush it off for now and go to play a song. Mayday by TheFatRat fills my ears. I vaguely hear a muffled yell and take out my earbuds. Probably just my imagination. And I am back to being confused about the earbuds.

But whatever I guess, I should be grateful I don't have to dig up another pair. I look for my backpack and my eyes land on a black backpack in the corner of my room. I sigh and look through it. Sure enough, it has my school stuff in it.

What's with all this stuff? Sure I don't hate it, but it's getting a little edgy. I'm not exactly your resident emo, and I prefer to keep any and all angst on the inside.

I exit my house without breakfast and begin my walk to school. On my walk I decided to check out the unknown number.

Unknown: Hey where are you?

Unknown: I know you said you'd leave but

Unknown: Hello?

Unknown: geez virge, I was only twenty minutes late

Unknown: are you okay?

Unknown: helloOoOoo? Earth to Virgil?

Unknown: Okay, I'm getting a little worried.

Unknown: Virgil, please answer me

Unknown: That's it.

Unknown: Okay, I shouldn't have done that.
