"Please Dee, I don't understand." He pleaded.

"I can't keep doing this Virgil!" Dee shouted back in frustration, "You said it yourself, everything is against us."

"We're not meant to be together!"

"B-but you said.." Virgil stuttered, "Y-you said we'd beat the odds.."

"Jesus. You couldn't have possibly believed that." He shook his head, "I hardly believed it myself."

"Please Dee, I know you don't want to do this."

"No Virgil. I need to do this. For both of us."

"No you don't!" Virgil placed a hand on Dee's shoulder.

"Yes, I do." He smiled sadly, removing Virgil's hand.

"I love you." Virgil looked to him with hopeful but pleading eyes.

Dee looked down and dropped his voice. "I'm not so sure I can feel love anymore."

Virgil whimpered and put a hand to his chest.

"I don't blame you. I don't. But we can't stay together." He turned away, "And deep inside, I know you know that too."

"But-"

"Go." Dee spoke shakily.

"What?"

"Go home, Virgil."

"Dee-"

"Go!" He turned back and revealed his watery eyes. "Please just go."

Virgil nodded and wiped his tears away as he silently exited Dee's house. He kept himself cool and neutral as he walked home, suppressing his emotions. It wasn't until he got home that he let it all out.

He flopped over onto his bed and he cried as his mind remembered all the memories he'd created during this relationship with Dee. All the fun, all the fights, all the love, and all the arguing. Maybe he was right. They weren't made for each other. Not in this universe.

He pulled out his phone and went to text Thomas right away.

Virgil: hey something happened

Virgil: i need like a hug or something.. So

No response.

Virgil: thomas?

"His phone is probably dead. I'll just go over to his place." Virgil sighed and stood up.

He knocked on Thomas' front door and waited for a response.

The door opened to reveal a small 7th grader. "Oh hey Virgil."

"Hi Shea, I'm just here to-"

"SHEA WHO'S AT THE DOOR?" A shout was heard from somewhere in the house.
