Chapter Twelve

"Adrien, wait" Marinette grabbed His arm before he could leave. Rain pored down around them, creating a shiny covering on the dark sidewalk's "Marinette I cant do this anymore! I cant live like this!" He bowed his head, his soaked hair stuck to his head. "Adrien please! We can get through this!" Marinette wrapped his hand in her own. It was day time but it was as dark as night around them. Soft rain fell from the sky, soaking them and everything around them. " Marinette. There is no way. I can't change, this isn't a disease, there is no cure!" Adrien looked at her. There was pain in his eyes. Pure agony and despair. "Adrien I-" lightning strikes, and the sky was sliced open and the clouds parted, sunlight burst through the cracks of the clouds and it once again looked like day. But for a second, and only a second,

Marinette saw something in Adriens eyes. Something she didn't think she had seen since his change. Happiness. But I say a second because the moment lasted only that long. Just as the clouds had parted, they closed creating a great flash of sunlight. Marinette blinked from the light, having singed her eyes. She opened her eyes after a bit and looked back at Adrien, but what she saw instead. Was a charcoal statue, that crumbled and blew away with the wind. "NOOOOOOOOOOO"

Marinette shot up in her bed, covered in cold sweat. Gasping hard she only took a moment rest then frantically woke up Tikki. " Tikki! Tikki wake up!" "W- what? Akuma?" Tikki asked, half asleep. " Worse. Tikki spots on!"

Marinette transformed into ladybug and was out of her house in five seconds flat. Tears poured down her face just as the rain had fallen in her dream. She raced across the Parisian sky, fighting against the clock. Ladybug reached Adrien's house and banged on his window. It opened automatically and she dove in.

" Adrien! Adrien are you ok?" It was dark in his room, she couldn't see a thing. Ladybug groped around his room until she met a cold pair of hands. " Ladybug? What are you doing here? Its two in the morning?" Adrien, now having improved vision could see in the dark just fine. " Ladybug gasped as if she had just been let out of a chokehold. She pulled him into a hug, tears flowing freely. " Woah! What happened?" Adrien brought them over to the couch where he sat her down. "Are you ok?" He placed one had on her shoulder. " Adrien..... I- I thought.... I though I lost you." She pulled him into another hug. He paced his chin atop her head and stroked his hand through her hair. " Shhhh. Its ok Bugaboo. I'm not going anywhere. Im right here" he calmly whispered to her until she pulled away, wiping her tears. " I- I had a nightmare. W-We were o-outside, it was raining, then the sky split open and you- you- you di-" she burst into another wave of tears. Ladybug buried her head in the crick of his neck. " You burnt. You died and blew away." She said into his skin. It was soft. But cold, Adrien no longer had body heat. Because he had no heart, he was always cold. They stayed like that for a while. In each other's arms. Enjoying the company of each other. He wished they could stay like that forever but.... he had business to attend to.

Adrien slowly pushed her away. " Ill be right back." He said. And left, to where, Ladybug could not see. But she hears a door slide oped and closed. Ladybug turned a flashlight on on her yo-yo and looked for a light switch, and turned it on. Adrien's room was a complete mess. Clothes scattered on the floor, and empty bottles on his desk, some had spilt a little and there was blood on his desk, leaking onto the floor. "Ah!" Adrien had opened his bathroom door and covered his face, shielding himself from the light. He wad wearing a black ripped T- shirt and sweat pants. " Adrien?" Ladybug walked over to him. " C-Can you turn the light off?" He asked her, voice muffled by his arms. " Why? Theirs no need to." Ladybug chuckled and pulled is hands down. " Wait, Please don-" *Gasp* Adrien was such a pale gray, his skin had a blue sheen to it. His face hollow and sunken in. It looked like he hadn't eaten or drunkin anything in days Ladybug's hands flew to her mouth. " Adrien." He looked down and pushed past her and walked to about the end of his bed and stopped, his back facing her. " Adrien, when was the last time you fed?" Said ladybug, her hands had lowered a bit. "Please don't say it like that." Adrien leaned his head back. "When was the last time you fed!?" Ladybug asked again. Adrien sighed, un able to lie to his lady. " Two weeks." He said finially. "Adrien! You need to- you cant-" "Cant what? You wanna know something I can't do? I can't eat! I cant drink! I cant even drink blood without feeling sick to my stomach!" Adrien turned around yelling in frustration. " It disgusts me! You saw what I did! I cant control it! The only thing i can live on is the one thing I cant- WONT EAT!" Adrien turned around. She could see through his skin, to the bone beneath it. "I... I can smell it Ladybug. I can never get away from it. It follows me everywhere. I can smell everyones! Its always in my mind. I don't know how much I can live with this! I want to-" Adrien had finially let it go and sat on the edge of his bed, elbows on knees, hands in hair. He was the one crying now. Ladybug placed herself next to him. "I never knew." She said. "You never told me." "How could I? How could I burden the one I love with such knowledge?" Ladybug blushed. Its been so long since shes heard him say that. " You should have told me. I could have helped." She said. " How? How could you have helped? This isn't a disease, there is no cure. No help." " I want to die." He raised his head and looked at her, his tears still flowing down his face. " Adrien! Don't say that! Theirs still a way out of this! There has to be...." Adrien just shook his head. " Im a danger to the world. I shouldn't alive. I don't deserve to." " You can't." " But I should." "No, I mean you cant. Vampires don't die easily." Ladybug placed a hand on his shoulder. " Then how do they die?" Adriens face had hardened into a stone cold glare. Ladybug took a deep breath. " Theirs only one way. The same way you were born. Drained of all your blood." Adrien's face softened as remembered the excruciating pain he had went through. Adrien shuddered. Ladybug placed a hand on his shoulder." You can't die. Think of all the people who care about you" Care? About me?" Adrien stood up. " Nobody cares about me! I have one friend at school who dosent even like me, My father hated me before and if not he does now. Do you know how many times I've had to make up excuses to keep myself from being dragged to the hospital? Ive had to go to the extent of barricading the doors! I haven't left my room in over a week!" Ladybug looked over to his door, which was indeed, blocked by his piano. "I care about you." Adrien wrapped his arms around himself and turned away from her. "No you don't. You only pity me because Im your partner." She stood up beside him. " Adrien when was the last time you were Chat?.... Exactly. I don't pity you, I care for you and want to help. Theirs always an answer to something." " Ladybug, this isn't a disease, Im not sick. There is no cure. No help. Not this time." said Adrien. "Maybe..... Lucky charm." A glow came out of her yo-yo, and when the glow had ceased, she was left with a black and red dagger. She sucked in her breath and looked up at Adrien, to see if he had seen it. He hadn't. Ladybug quickly hid the dagger under his mattress, and turned back to Adrien.

She raised her hands and held his face in between her hands, wiping his tears away from his face. " But were a team aren't we? Ladybug and Chat Noir. We do everything together. Partners. Together we can accomplish anything! We can survive this!" Adrien smiled a sad smile and put one of his hands on top of his, and leaned into it. " Thank you Bugaboo." Ladybug laughed a little. "There you are." She said and leaned in slightly. " I was never gone M'Lady." He said and leaned in a little as well. Her lips parted and she felt the absence of his breath, and remembered he didn't need to breathe. As He sucked in her breath, the absence of his missed, Adrien felt a pull. He recognized this pull, and tried to warn her but he was too late. Just at their lips were about to meet. Adrien swerved, their lips brushing slightly. Adrien had not been able to stop the urge and snapped towards her neck where the slightest bit of skin showed. His Insiors slipped out and plunged his teeth into her soft flesh.
