I landed square on my face and I felt my ankle twist.

"Shi-" I groaned as Dr. Gale helped me up.

"Its okay, might be weird laying down for so long then walking. We had you doing a few exercises so you didn't gain much weight." He smiled encouragly.

I just sat back on the bed and rolled my eyes. This was going to be miserable. I could hardly walk!

"Anyway, I'll bring you some lunch," he said and walked out.

And that was pretty much the highlight of my day. I just ate and slept because no one visited me but I had made a plan. A horrid plan yet it was something that the average twelve year old would do....maybe not average but something that I want to do.

The nurse who brought me breakfast turned out the light in my room as I layed silently, pretending to be asleep. The clock beside me said it was ten pm and the only noise within ear shot was the sound of snoring in the room beside me. I sat up quietly and felt the cold floor with my feet. I pushed myself up so I was standing but had all my weight on my arms that were pushing against the bed.

This was the craziest idea I had ever had but I was going to do it. I slowly shifted my weight onto my feet and I could feel my ankle burn. This only made me stronger. I forced one foot in front of the other then relaxed. It didn't seem that hard. I shifted weight from foot to foot while moving forward. I made it to the blinds that covered the window on the door and peaked through. I observed the surroundings carefully.

A male nurse sat at a desk across the hall and the rest was empty. I smirked and realised my plan would work. Everything had just fallen into place. Walking was simple, the hospital was empty, and I'm sure that in L.A. there are plenty of taxis ready to drive me to my destination, which is..... I dont know.

I havent figured out yet where I am going to escape to yet but where ever it is, it will be better than this hospital. I need to find someone who can explain this to me. Not someone who says they are my friend but to me, are just another stranger.

I creeped slowly back to my bed and layed down again. The time was now three so I closed my eyes and let my mind go blank.

*******

"Alright Ariel, shall we try to walk again today? Im sure you can do it!" Dr. Gale asked the next afternoon.

"Im sorry!" I cried. "I just cant! I dont feel ready. How about tomorrow?"

"Fine. Rest today but tomorrow we will try again." He smiled and left my room.

"I thought he would never leave!" Taylor laughed as he left the room.

I laughed lightly then continued to admire my finger nails that were painted pink with sparkles. Taylor had come over in the morning and had given me a make over. She made my eyes pop some how and and made my lips look full and pouty. She had some real talent.

"So, you texted me and asked me to dress you up. Am I aloud to ask why?" Taylor said as she applied one last coat of nail polish to my toes.

"No reason. I just thought we should get to know each other better." I lied.

"Then why did I bring clothes?" She asked again.

"To play dress up!" I lied more.

She shrugged and continues to do my face. After that, she pulls out a bag of clothes and I slip into a dress some how still laying down.

"You are such a stunner!" She joked.

"Thanks" I blushed at her kind words.

"Anyway, you can hold on to the dress but I have to go. The press has been asking questions non stop and its exhausting so Im going to go to my apartment and sleep!"

I laughed as she closed the door then I got my mind focuses again. I pulled out a bag Taylor had brought me that had a few of my possessions in it. I dug out a wallet that had credit and debit cards, (not like I knew the pins) and I had some cash. She brought me my phone charger so I could use it again and charm bracelet. I didnt know why, but I put it on anyway. I hid everything under my pillow then pretended to sleep again.

This time, Dr. Gale came in. He had a pile of papers and looked like he wanted to talk about something but then realised I was asleep and turned out the lights and left.

I waited for an hour, until there was no noise outside, then I stepped down from my bed. I pulled out the things from under my pillow then snuck over to the door. In the window, only the nurse was visible. I waited there until he got up and left. Perfect was the only word that could describe that.

I opened the door and stepped into the dimly lit hall. No one to my right. No one to my left.

I ran as fast as my feet could take me which was pretty slow considering my feet were hurting.

I hopped into an elevator and went to the ground level. Once the doors opened, I ran out, not even checking to see if anyone was around.

I heard a few gasps and someone whisper "is that Darla?" but I didnt stop.

I rushed out the doors and onto the street where I was greeted by the sound of engines roaring. I had to plug my ears for a moment before I was used to it.

The car lights kept flashing by in the dark. The buildings where all lit up even though it was eleven oclock which was way past my bed time, for the twelve year old me anyway.

My dress felt light and thin and didnt protect me from the cold air and my feet hurt because I had no shoes.

I looked for another building that I could take shelter in and found myself limping toward a restaraunt. It looked like fast food but it would work.

"welcome to mac Donald's!" Someone said.

I looked around but no one was there. Strange.

I took a seat in the back and pulles out my phone. I scrolles through contacts as if I knew who anyone was on it. I found a number that had no name on it. Curiously, I dialed it.

"Marly's taxi, can I help you?" A man answered.

"Oh my gosh, yes! Im at a mc donalds beside a hospital, could you send me a cab?" I silently cheered.

"Be there any minute!"

I hung up and went back into the cold weather. Sure enough, a taxi came and opened the door.

Without thinking twice, I jumped in.
