"Excuse me Ma'am," someone was shaking my shoulder.
I opened my eyes and saw that the bus had stopped. We were sitting at the bus station that I had been at the other day. Except, the other day was eight years ago.
"Oh, I'm sorry," I yawned and grabbed my purse.
I got off the bus and looked around. The station was the same as it was when.....when I was twelve. If I was correct, I could just walk down the street and be by my house....or my old house.
So that's what I did. I headed for my old house. I walked with my hands in Brayden's jacket pockets as the air chilled my bones. It was still a cold night and I have always hated being alone in the dark.
Soon, my house came into view. A few houses around it had lights on because it was almost seven o'clock but my house was dark. I approached it silently and peered in through the front window. The wall that mine and Jake's photo used to hang has been replaced with pictures of other kids. The picture of my mom and dead aunt has been replaced with a wedding photo of a young couple.
As I try to get a better look at the picture, the light turns on in the room I was looking into. I held a scream and fell backwards, out of view of the window. I sat silently on the ground and waited for a sign of movement inside but nothing happened. I decided it was clear to stand up again.
I pressed my face against the glass again and looked for the picture, but it was gone! I stepped back and realised someone must have realised I was looking at it and taken it away. I was about to run when the front door crashed open.
My heart started racing and I wanted to run but I was frozen.
"Who's there!?" A man called furiously.
I didn't answer. I studied the mans familiar face structure. I could have sworn I had seen him before....
"Ariel? I-Is that you?" The man asked.
"Jake!" I shrieked and jumped into his arms.
I expected him to catch me but instead he dropped me and stormed back inside, slamming the door in my face. I shook my head in confusion the went and banged on the door.
"Jake! Open the door!! Please!!" I cried.
The door jolted open and Jake's face appeared again. "Shut up! You'll wake the kids!" He growled then slammed the door again.
"I wont shut up until you talk to me!" I knocked harder.
I heard him grunt loudly then open the door. "What could you possibly want," he snapped.
"Whoa. Easy bro. First, look how old you are! Jeez you've changed a lot big bro!" I teased. "Second, I need to talk to you about some thing serious. Like, really serious."
"Why are you talking like a fricken ten year old? I'll talk to you but you have to shut the hell up! Deal?" He asked and opened the door wider so I could step past him.
I nodded and walked into my.....I mean, Jake's house. The walls were all the same color but the furniture was all different. There was small toddler toys everywhere and there where dog bowls with food spilling out by the table.
"Come sit," He pointed to the couches.
I took a seat on a orange sofa and he sat across from me on a orange arm chair.
We had an awkward silence before I decided to break it. "So you got dogs? I thought you were a cat person?"
"Well, the woman I married on my wedding day that you didn't show up for, likes them so we got 'em," he practically hissed through his clenched jaw.
"Oh..." was all I could reply with. I looked everywhere but into his eyes. I looked at the Wall where a simple flower was drawn on the wall. "Remember that day? When we drew on the walls and mom had a cow?" I giggled.
"An remember the day you stopped talking to me?" He snapped back.
"Actually, I don't Jake! Okay? Now can you please stop accusing me of thing I can't remember!?" I shouted.
He just stared at me blankly'.
I took a deep breath. "Look. I was in an accident. I've lost my memory of the last eight years. I'm twelve. Well not really but that's all I can remember." I explained.
It took a few minutes before my word took effect and his face turned from anger, to no emotion.
"I don't know why Taylor is. I don't know why my name is Darla. I don't know why I left you. I don't know why mom is gone. I don't know where my life went. I only know that I have become a huge jerk to people." A tear rolled down my cheek. "A-and....I....I need...y-you help!" I said between sobs now.
"Taylor swift is your best friend." Was all Jake said before he ran to the other room.He came back with tissue and I took them gratefully. "So if your saying is true, you can't remember what happened while you were thirteen and fourteen?"
I nodded.
"And...you want me....to tell you?" He looked pale.
I nodded again.
"Ariel... Mom died while giving birth to our sister."
