Are we all the same
Looking for love, looking for love
Are we all in chains
Trying to be enough, be enough
Woah
If I looked you in the eye
And showed the broken things inside
Would you run away
Would you run away
Woah
If you saw my darkest parts
The wicked things inside my heart
Would you run away
Or are you the same?

Lonely - Nathan Wagner

If Lucy could have felt any normal emotions, she would have been elated. But she couldn't, so she only felt satisfied. She would have a pack. That was something she hadn't been expecting. Because werewolves naturally hated vampires. It was instinct. And since she was both, she was neither. To werewolves, she was a vampire; to vampires, she was a werewolf.

Lucy walked into her English and set her paper on the teacher's desk. He looked up surprised.

"I told you. I'll catch up." She smirked. The paper was supposed to be a three week project, but Lucy had only started a few days ago. Luckily, she didn't need to sleep, which gave her double the time the other students had. And she was used to finishing quickly so she could chase after Caroline, or help Vicki get her grades up a bit so she wouldn't fail.

Vicki and Lucy had hit it of dangerously well the moment they had met, something Caroline had advised against. Lucy had begrudgingly promised she wouldn't get into drugs and proceeded to do it anyway. It wasn't like she hadn't done it already. Way too many of the foster homes had drugs hidden around the house, or older kids who encouraged it, or both.

Lucy helped Vicki pass classes, and in exchange, Vicki didn't tell anyone Lucy was getting high.

Of course, everything had spiraled when Vicki was killed. Since no one knew Lucy was hanging out with Vicki, no one knew she was there.

Caroline had caught her dangerously high a few days later, and had put her in a support group to help. It actually did help, although it was probably only because Caroline had been so supportive.

She sat down at the back of the class and played Fruit Ninja while waiting for class to start. She jumped  when someone suddenly tripped, their books spilling across the floor. The rest of the class laughed and she noticed one of the students putting their foot back under the desk. She rolled her eyes. Some people were so immature.

She picked up a book that had slid under her desk and handed it to the blonde boy, who mumbled a 'thanks' before sitting down in the chair to her left. She didn't reply and turned back to the game.

"Fruit Ninja?" The boy asked suddenly.

"Yeah. You play?"

"No." He shook his head. "I'm Isaac Lahey, by the way."

"Lucy Forbes."

"You just moved here, right?"

"Yeah. Last week, actually."

"So where are you from?"

"Virginia. So clear across the country."

"That must have been a long drive. Why'd you move? Sorry. I didn't mean to pry." He quickly amended when her eyes narrowed suspiciously.

"It's fine." She waved him off, forcing a smile. "I'm in the Foster system. Just another move. No big deal."

"Oh." He didn't seem to know what to say, but was luckily saved by the bell ringing.

Her other classes passed uneventfully until lunch when Isaac sat down across from her.

"Hi." He greeted awkwardly as he sat down. She nodded in return since her fangs were out. She set the metal water bottle down and screwed the top back on. She licked her teeth clean of the blood and retracted her fangs.
