Part 10: Hidden in Veils of Deceit

It had only been a while since Tanjirou left her, but the barrage of attacks slowly fatigued her. The homing needles only grew in numbers, overwhelming Nezuko. She knew that if she wanted this to stop, she needed to find the demon.

The spikes pierced her skin, dispersing her blood everywhere. She screeched, alighting her blood and burning the needles down. Her muffler getting burned in the process.

"In all my life, I would've never thought I would fight a demon." A voice suddenly appeared. It was sounding from every direction so Nezuko couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. "I guess life is full of surprises, huh?"

Nezuko was getting sick of all these games. She continued slashing and burning the pillars of needles in bulk. But the longer she fought, the weaker she got.

A laugh rung in Nezuko's ears. "Guess it's time I finally taste myself some demon flesh!" A large spike emerged from the ground and rushed to Nezuko.

But just as it was in front of her, a thunder struck the needle, shattering it into pieces then melting it away.

"?!" Nezuko was in awe of what happened but was quick on her feet to counter the other attacks.

"What was..." The demon muttered, halting the attack to check his surroundings. It was then when a flash of lightning rammed him from the back, causing him to fall from the mansion.

He fell right behind Nezuko, who immediately turned her back to see a figure on top of the demon.

'Zenitsu?!' Nezuko gasped. She realized this wasn't the time to get shocked and dashed in an attempt to behead the demon.

However, the demon wasn't letting it end just yet. He pushed Zenitsu away and created a fence of spikes around himself.

Zenitsu hissed and began leaping around the place- trying to close the distance between him and the demon. Nezuko did the same thing, only she was slower than Zenitsu.

She was getting impatient and wanted this all to be over quickly. But what she didn't notice was that when she was busy slicing up needles, a sharp pillar was aiming for her back.

As the needle pierced her shoulder, she gasped and screamed. Her blood setting ablaze anything it touches, including Zenitsu.

What she didn't know was that Zenitsu was asleep, and in that state, he had no idea what his body was doing. Furious, a lit-up Zenitsu slammed Nezuko to the ground, growling at her and scraping away the skin on her arm.

Nezuko then proceeded to scratch Zenitsu all over and kept lighting things on fire.

The demon, on the other hand, was amused at what he was seeing. "See? This is why demons shouldn't meddle in my affairs." He jumped up to the sky and perched on top of the needle's end. "Oh well. I guess I'll eat them when they're done killing each other."

But just as the demon was turning his back on them, thunder struck once more and flames were smoking the area. When he peered down, both Nezuko and Zenitsu were fighting each other chaotically. Zenitsu was jumping all over the place while Nezuko was slashing the needles down, lighting them all on fire.

"What... What's going on?!"

But before he could process what was going on, his head got separated from his neck by two claws.

"Genya!" Tanjirou exclaimed, his face lighting up. "Please, I need all the support I can get!"

"Support?" Genya scoffed and raced forward, passing Tanjirou. "I can do more than support." He shot his gun point-blank at the demon's legs, staggering it.
