The first time Park Somin fell in love was unexpected. She never had time for those kinds of feelings. Her life was always filled with problems, and the only people she let in in her life, apart from her family, was the Kim brothers.
She rarely had time to go to school and get along with other kids. She was mostly homeschooled and it was shitty. She felt lonely, isolated. It was awful to say that she preferred the days she spent hospitalized because at least she could talk with other patients, nurses, and doctors.
So, when her disease gave her a break, Somin begged her parents to get her at the same school as her brother and the Kim's. On the first day of school, she felt a jolt of enthusiasm. She felt like all of her dreams were about to come true. It was high school and she had seen enough dramas to know how things would be like.
However, she had no idea that it would be that suffocating. All the pity looks she received made her nauseated. Being treated like she was dumb just because she was homeschooled, was just the tip of her nightmare. Yet, she never let her friends notice how bothered she was.
Because Seokjin was two years older, and their brothers were two years younger than her, she had no classes with none of them. She was all alone through classes, only having time with them on the breaks and at lunchtime.
Seokjin was already in his last year and she only felt reassurance with him by her side. Her teenage dream would turn into a scary one once he left school.
She dreaded every day she had to go to school. Somin had to put up a front because she didn't want to chicken out and go back in her decision. She wanted to be strong because she was sick of being weak. But all of this nightmare faded away when she met him. Being in love makes you have the energy and disposition to face anything monstrous like school.
The first Somin saw him was in the school halls. She had left the classroom because she was feeling nauseated, one of the side effects of her medication. Somin leaned in the lockers next to her classroom as she breathed deeply.
Her eyes caught him by the corner, as her head was facing up in means to breathe deeper and stop her queasiness. His dark form was impossible to miss and she quickly looked at him, like she was being drawn to a magnet.
He was holding a cigarette in his lips, as his fingers ignited the lighter, without lighting the cigarette. He was heading towards the fire escape stairs, which led to the rooftop. The boy looked bored and he barely noticed her. However, Somin's heart jumped like she never felt it before. She couldn't tell what exactly caused it, but she knew she liked everything in him.
