Monday dawned upon us as it would every week but this Monday was different. Ahsan took an off from work in the afternoon while i busied myself doing my routines and awaiting the time to go to the doctors. After dhuhr prayers we left with both the kids.
There were a few patients before us so we had to wait. Time moved at a tortoise pace for us but we had faith in Allah that He would never burden His people with what they cannot handle. Our turn came and we entered the office and sat ourselves to hear more about our baby girl.
"Assalamualaykum. How are you both today? And how are you coping up?"
He looked at me specifically as he felt i would be the one who would have difficulty in accepting the fact that my daughter was special. Yes special as that is what they are. So what they are different, every child is different and special in their own way so how could my daughter be any less? And when i told him this, he was very happy
"Al hamdulilah you have accepted And that is an awesome thing because if you wouldnt your child would suffer. So Al hamdulilah."
Ahsan looked at me with a proud feeling and i smiled at him. The doctor then asked us what we know about down syndrome and we explained all that we read. He was happy to hear and a smile never left him as we explained every single detail about these special children.
"I cannot express how good it feels to hear this from you. May Allah always guide you to take care of your Ainar in the best way possible and you be an example to those who dont accept their children being special. Ameen."
"Ameen." Ahsan and i said in unison.
"Now, you have to know one thing, children with downs can have a certain kind of complication which we need to check. Some have a problem with sight, some hearing, some have heart conditions. So i would suggest for you to get an echo done for Ainar so we know if she has a heart condition or not. And i would advice you to do it immediately. I will write the details for you and you can take her to a friend of mine who has a clinic and she will guide you from there. Dont worry, keep your faith strong in Allah and all shall in shaa Allah fall into place."
Even though we did not speak, we both were thinking how many more tests for our little princess but we did not give up and Ahsan booked the appointment for her the next day only.
