I land on the cold, cement, basement ground with a loud thud. Only adding to the sound of my scream from the pain in my foot.

The sound of footsteps pounding on the wooden stairs echo over it too.

I hear the girls voice again, but my eyes are too blurry too see her. "I told you I'd get you down." She smirks at her 'accomplishment', leaning on one leg above me.

"You asshole!" I hear Carls voice boom now and I can just make out him shoving the bigger girl to the side. I feel his whimpy arms wrap around me to help me up.

I stay put though, refusing to stand on my leg. Carl crouches down in front of me and wipes the still falling tears off my face, allowing me too see him.

I love him.

I push the haunting fact away quickly and look up at girl, now being pushed aside by my Uncle.

The girl, whom I dont know the name of, has blue hair. Her roots were bleached like she was soon to dye her hair (before of course). Her eyes were a dark brown that looked almost black in this darkness. A crossbow hung over her shoulder and a knife is gripped in her dirty fingers.

The knife that cut my rope..

She wore black skinny jeans that hugged her curves perfectly, they had a few rips and tears in them but they looked like they could last longer. She had on a gray, bloody shirt with the batman logo in black. Her teal combat boots were muddy and torn at the seams.

All three of us watch her as she slides the knife into her belt loops and puts a hand on her popped out hip.

"What's yall's names?" Her voice questions, raising her eyebrows.

"Kasen." I speak quickly. I was always a good lier. Having strict parents, I had too be.

Carl glances at me before telling his own little white lie. "Carter."

I guess Uncle Dallas had caught on. He nods to her, lying easily. "Jackson."

The girl smirks at all three of us, "I'm Denise."

It's silent until Carl wraps an arm around my shoulders and lifts me up. As soon as I put weight on the foot pain shoots through my ankle and leg. "Ow, ow. I think its broken." I whimper, biting my lip.

"We have an aid back at my camp. You can come if you want." She sends a half smile gently.

"How do we know you're not leading us into a trap?" Uncle Dallas questions, crossing his arms over his chest.

Denise scoffs, mocking him. "How do we know you're not leading us into a trap? Ya' dont. Just take my word for it." She smirks.

Wow this girl is effortless.

Uncle Dallas nods and walks over to where Carl's holding me up. He wraps one arm under my back and the other under my legs. "You gotta car?"

"A pick-up. The boy, whats yer' name.. Carter..? Yea. Carter has to ride in the back." Denise shrugs her shoulders.

I'm quick to speak. Which isn't smart most the time but right now I was sure. "I stay with Carter. I'll ride in the back with him." I state.

I may be broken but I'm independent.

Denise squints her eyes at me before rolling them and nodding. "Whatever."

I feel another pair of arms wrap under me and this time I'm lifted by someone shorter. "Don't drop me." I tease him, smirking slightly to hide the pain still shooting throught my foot.
