∆Chapter 10

I push open the heavy metal door, careful to not let it creak.

I glance back at Carl who gives me a reassuring nod.

I hold the knife in my hand as I carefully sneak out of the room, Carl following closely behind me. He grabs my shoulder, turning me to face him. "We need a plan." He states.

My lips from a straight line, eyebrows furrowed while I'm silent for a minute. "Yea. We do." I sigh quietly. "Ya got one?" I raise my eyebrows, chuckling dryly.

This wasn't a funny moment and Carl knew it, but he was willing to give a forced laugh at my attempts of being funny. The mood needed to be lightened, and we both knew it. Right now it was do or die.

"Actually, I do." Carl says seriously, his lips forming the same straight line mine were. I chuckle for real this time, but Carl doesn't, leaving me in the awkward position of staring at the concrete flooring.

He smirks lightly at me, then the same focused look returns as he talks, "We need to get the group first. The guards wont be on the roof, they'll be guarding the train car. Alright?" I nod, my eyes not leaving Carls as I listen to every word. "We'll sneak around the building, underneath the roof. But there were two guards on the outside of the train cart. You have your knife so we can take them out easily.

"Now, we'll need to get the group out of the train cart quietly. Once that's done, we'll follow the building back inside. The group will stay in the room I was in and wait for Garreth too get us." Carl explains. "I don't know where they're taking us when they get us, but the group will follow, saving our asses. Got it?" I nod, sighing, "This won't be easy." I say quietly.

There was a chance we would get caught. And it was a pretty big one. I wasn't too excited, but this would save our behinds and the groups. There was a slim chance we would get out. A slim chance we would all survive. A slim chance. But that's what it was all about now-a-days. Slim chances.

"Yea. It won't." Carl says quietly. I chuckle quietly, looking back up and meeting eyes with his. I pull Carls shoulders to me, hugging him tightly, my head on his chest. He wraps his arms around me torso, laying his head on mine. "We can do it. There's a slim chance. But we can." I say quietly. I squeeze Carls shoulders once and let go, smiling up at him a moment before turning around.

"Let's get down to business." I say quietly.

My converse hit the floor silently as I quickly make my way to the door to the outside. My fingers grip the knife in my hand tightly.

Life or death.

Do or die.

I make sure Carls still behind me, giving him a nod before I silently push open the door.

Carl and I carefully and quietly make our way around the side of the building, not taking the chance of being seen by anyone.

We make it around to the train car. I examine the people guarding it.

A middle aged man, his gray hair shaggy as he sleeps. His head is leaned back against the sliding door of the train car. The other man say opposite of us. My eyes glared into the back of his dark skinned head. He finger tips swiftly swiped over the knife in his hands, his eyes not leaving the blade.

I bite my lip as I quietly flip my knife open. I look back at Carl before quietly making my way up to the man. My blade swipes his neck and his body falls limp. The other man stirs in his sleep before returning to sleep soundly. I quietly, move my knife above his temple, stabbing him quietly.

"God I hate killing living people." I say quietly, turning to Carl.

He sighs quietly, "I would've done it if you would have told me."

"No, I need to get over it. I'll need too in this life." I state.

Carl nods and pulls open the train cart, revealing a stressed group.

"Carl. Kayla." Rick gasps. He pulls his son into a tight hug. My family sees me and pull me into a hug. The stinging on my back makes me wince but I ignore it.

"Wait Carl." Rick pulls away from his son, causing my family to pull away from me. "Why is Kayla wearing your shirt?" Rick questions.

I feel my cheeks get hot and I look down. "It's a long story." Carl answers, glancing at me. "And it's a flannel." He smirks.

I chuckle, "Alright guys. Down to business." I state. "Garreth and Mary will be back any moment. We need to get back to the room. Y'all will stay in the room next to the room were in. If that made any sense. But y'all will follow Garreth and Mary to wherever they take us. And save us. Easy as that." I explain.

I few looks are passed around. "I'm gonna need to get the bag out of the woods." Rick says.

"Do it quickly. I don't know what they're doin' to us." Carl says.

The group seems to agree.

"Follow us." I say. I quickly make my way back to the building. Me and Carl show the group the room they're s'posed to be in and we go in ours.

"We made it back before the others did." Carl sighs. He sits down on the floor, leaning his back against the wall. I sit down next to him, carefully leaning my back against the wall. I wince, arching my back off of it. Carl sighs quietly, wrapping his arm around my waist to keep my back off the wall. I lean my head on his shoulder and it's silent for a minute before the door opens.
