this was an odd day.
i had never had a day off before, and neither had elliot, as i see him everyday.
but today i waited by the lockers, just like i always do. but it was already 8:35 and elliot still hadn't shown.
i was beginning to get worried, and wondered if i should just go to class.
after another five minutes, i shut my locker, and grabbed my skateboard- which i always left at the front of mr. harrison's class when i got there.
as i pulled my bag over my shoulder, i heard the main doors shutter against each other.
i looked to my left, and there he was. elliot finally made it. he looked exhausted. he was out of breath, and his hair was scruffier than usual.
he slumped his way over to me, until we were almost face to face.
"you waited." elliot said, a certain sparkle to his eyes.
i took this time to take in his appearance. his eyes had dark bags under them, matched with a lopsided smile. he looked...adorable?
"of course i did." i said, mirroring the same smile he wore.
"we're definitely going to get detention now." he said slowly, still grinning.
a moment of silence followed, and i frowned, "are you okay?"
elliot waited a while to answer. i watched as he looked at the floor, deep in thought, and he looked back up to nod.
"you can tell me anything, leo." i stated, waiting for him to answer.
but he didn't. he just stepped forward, wrapping his arms around my torso. i felt my face flush and imagined how pink my cheeks looked.
i put my arms around him, ignoring my thoughts and the feeling in my chest.
i felt elliot take a fistful of my shirt, clinging on and hugging me tighter. i lifted one of my hands to stroke his hair- trying my best to comfort him.
that's when i felt the front of my shirt get damp. i heard elliot sniff, and i didn't know what to do. i just tried to pull him closer, rubbing his back with my other hand. he was crying?
he let out a small sob and it made my heart break. i wished i could take away his sadness or pain. i wished he was happier, and didn't need to cry. i wished he would smile. because elliot's smile is my favourite thing in the world.
i tried to tell him that it was okay, that everything would get better. i hoped that if i just kept muttering things into his ear, he'd stop.
but it didn't. not at first, anyway. i thought it'd be best to keep trying. i spoke softly in elliot's ear, trying to make him feel better.
"breathe, elliot." i said, and he slowly let go of my shirt.
"it's going to be okay." his grip on my loosened.
"im here." the sniffles stopped.
after another few minutes, elliot hesitantly pulled away, muttering a small, "sorry."
all i did was smile at him. and figured it'd probably be best to change the subject.
"oh, we're definitely going to get detention."
he only giggled in response, and wiped his eyes with his shirt. i watched as he inhaled deeply. i nodded at him, and we both began our short walk to class.
