almost tripping over, i finally made it back to the couch. i had gone upstairs to get my pillow and a blanket, so i could sleep downstairs.

i had a movie on, but i wasn't really paying attention. i was thinking back to kai. which, since i had left his house, i'd been doing a lot of.

i was tired and ready to settle down to sleep, but a quiet knock interrupted.

at first, i thought i was hearing things. but then i heard it again, louder this time.

i huffed out a breath, and got up to answer the door. who would be at my door at 7pm on a sunday night?

upon opening the door, i almost choked.
kai in all his glory, was standing at my door with none other than my little brother.

i looked at kai, and back down to my brother, before narrowing my eyes at the pair. i watched as kai's arm dropped from around jake's shoulders.

"what are you doing?" i ask them both,

"uh-" is all kai managed to get out. he looked down at jake.

when kai finally looked up, he started talking once again, "some guys were giving jake a hard time... i had no idea you two were related."

i laughed at this, but frowned after taking in what he just said.

"wait, who?"

i eyed kai, curiously but he only shrugged, and looked at jake. i forced myself to look away from kai, and look at my brother.

jake stayed quiet for a while before saying, "you already know who."

i felt myself get angry at this, because not only were those guys picking on jake- but they knew i couldn't do anything about it.

i hated the fact that i was too weak and helpless to defend him. i couldn't even defend myself.

"wait..." kai said, trailing off. "the same guys that were buggin' you?"

i couldn't bring myself to reply. i didn't want kai to get mad at them, because it'd only make them tease us further. but i also didn't want kai thinking i was some sort of wimp.

"that's it." is all kai said, before turning around.

"kai?" i asked aloud, but he didn't answer. instead he just slowly began walking away.

jake stepped closer to me, "should we follow him?"

i silently nodded, closing the door behind me and walking in the direction kai went. he was still in view, and definitely knew that we were following him.

i soon felt jake tug at my sleeve, "what's he doing, li?"

i smiled at the nickname, before shrugging. "no idea."

after a minute or two, kai turned around and walked straight back to us, shaking his head.

as he stepped in front of us, he sighed quietly. i was about to question him, but i guessed he knew what i was about to say.

"it doesn't matter." he said quickly. "it's kind of late, and we have school tomorrow. i'm drained, so let's just all get some rest, okay?"

i looked at him, suspiciously, but he only shook his head in response. he looked conflicted, like he was struggling to make a decision. but i couldn't tell.

i watched him closely as he turned around, and began walking away. "i'll pick you up at 8!" he said loud enough for us to hear. i heard him laugh and soon enough, he was out of view.

i decided he was right. it was sunday night and i felt exhausted. i trusted kai, so i turned around and began my short journey home, jake following close behind.

when we got inside, i went into the kitchen, wetting a paper towel and bringing it to jake who was sitting on the couch, messing up the covers that i had put down before.

i sat down next to him, quickly wiping away the blood at his nose and lip.

after a while, he swatted my hand away. i guessed i was being too brotherly. i laughed, and went to throw the towel in the bin.

"you think it'll bruise?" i heard him shout from the other room.

"your eye?" i questioned, yelling too. i heard a mumble back which somewhat resembled a 'yeah.'

i walked back in, and sat down next to him, scoffing, "oh, definitely. i could give you another to make it even?"

laughing, he shook his head and went upstairs. so i switched the tv off, and got settled back down.

then i heard quiet footsteps coming back down the hall, and i looked up. jake was putting his own covers on the other couch.

i got up and helped him straighten it out, and then plopped back down on my own sheets.

"night." i slur, my eyes already forcing themselves shut.

"goodnight, li."
