i exhale deeply, stretching my arms above my head. swallowing the lump in my throat, i put the letter in the envelope without sealing it.

standing up from my desk, i walk over to my dresser and pull out a box. once i put the letter in the box, i put it away and smile sadly in half- content.

i'm doing better now.

sad memories make their way into my brain and i try to shake them away. tears form in my eyes but i manage to blink them away. i breathe in, trying to focus on something else.

sighing, i jog downstairs to wait for kai.

and just as i do, i hear a knock on the door.

opening it, i smile wide, "kai!" i say, sounding a little too happy. i feel my face get warm and i step outside, ready to ignore it. he grins at me.

"hey li." he replies, casually. he steps back to let me out and i turn to lock my door. we begin walking, and kai's hand brushes my own.

i turn to look him, but find myself unable to look away. he faces me, locking eyes with me and grinning. before i get the chance to talk, kai initiates a conversation about school. more importantly, what i'm doing after school.

i giggle, reminding him we have detention.

"after." he says, rolling his eyes playfully.

i shrug, "come to my house."

after a while, he finally replies with a nod. i smile and watch as he mimics my expression.

after a walk which seemed to take forever, we finally get to school. every now and then, i'd catch kai staring and of course i'd end up blushing like a fool.

"we're early." kai states, looking around the almost- empty hall.

"maybe he'll revoke our detention." i joke, shrugging.

kai shakes his head at this, a playful smile on his lips, "i hope not."

a familliar warmth creeps up my neck and we walk into class.

=====

i grin at kai, watching as he gives his own lopsided one back. as we begin walking to detention, he turns to me.

"you go ahead, i'll meet you inside."

i frown at this, confused. "why don't we just go in together?"

"i'll see you in a few." is all he says, before rushing in another direction.

i shrug to myself, trying to ignore the thoughts which clouded my head. am i being too clingy?

shaking my head, i walk into the classroom and sit myself down after grabbing a worksheet and nodding at the teacher. he nods back, and turns to his papers once again.

i end up grabbing an extra sheet for kai, and i put it where he would be sitting if i wasn't so annoying.

i exhale, focusing on the sheet in front of me. i work through mine quickly, sighing when i finish the paper.

i check the time, twice. realising i still have a while left, i end up working through kai's questions too. mainly because it was distracting me from thinking those bad thoughts.

but then kai comes in. almost 25 minutes late.

and he's covered in blue paint.
