eddie dragged his feet, gripping his backpack strap tightly as he made his way back to his big, white and gray house at the end of the street. as much as he doesn't like talking about how wealthy his family is, they do have a shit ton of money. his whole family also looked way too pretty and rich to live in a town like derry. everywhere he went his sister and mother always got 'ooo's' and 'ahh's', causing his father to lash out. and not because he cares about his kid and wife, it was because his father liked the attention.
eddie pushed open the big wooden door, stepping into the house that smelt strongly of smoke, old books and essential oils. he quickly walked past the living room where his mother sat reading some book, walking past his fathers office making his way to- "edward." his father spoke, his deep cold voice sending chills through his body.
eddie turned, slowing walking to the door way of his fathers office. hating every slow step he was taking. "yes?" eddie stoke quietly, holding onto the door frame as he looked everywhere but his dad.
"where were you?" his six foot two dad stood up, walking over to him. he practically towered over him, since eddie wasn't even five foot yet. he obviously got his mother's genes.
"i was at the park." eddie spoke quietly, letting a whimper of pain slip when his father grabbed his face harshly, squeezing his cheeks and making the small boy look up at him. "look at me when i'm talking to you." the man furrowed his eyebrows. "useless." he mumbled under his breath, but eddie still very clearly heard it.
"why didn't you ask for permission?" he asked, staring at eddie causing his heart to start pumping from fear even faster. "i-i wasn't thinking. i'm s-sorry." he choked out, causing his father to throw eddie against the wall and slap him.
"look at you! you have this nice house, all these nice clothes, even thought you decide to wear the f*ggy stuff, you have food on your plate, and you can't even remember simple rules! it's not that hard, eddie." he said, slapping him once again. "get that through your small head! start being grateful." he said, grabbing eddies shirt collar before throwing him out of the room.
eddie made eye contact with his mother, watching as she glanced at him but then went back to her book. it's not because she didn't care about eddie. no- she cared about him oh so dearly much. it's just she's too afraid. too afraid that if she shows affection to anyone, she'll end up getting hurt. like eddie just was.
eddie turned away, his eyes glossing with tears as he headed up the large staircase. he looked down noticing his shaky hands, trying his best to fight back tears. he sighed as he opened his bedroom door, running over and climbing on his king size bed. he held on tightly to a koala bear he got when he was five, quietly crying into it.
"cmon eddie-baby!" his mother grinned, watching as her five year old son ran from his father to his mother, engulfing her in the biggest bear hug. "mommy!" eddie giggled, letting himself be swung around by his mom. his father then came up from behind them, ruffling eddies hair. "alright champ, how about we win you a teddy bear at that game?" he said, pointing to one of the many rigged carnival games. eddie nodded eagerly, letting his mom carry over him over there. his father started throwing darts at the balloons, eddie jumping every time one popped. once he didn't win a bear for his son, he rolled his eyes and fished a fifty out of his wallet, bribing the man in the booth. "alright, eddie! i've got you your very own koala!" eddie grinned, taking the stuffed animal that was bigger than he was in his arms. "i name him.. mister snuggles!"
and that's what mister snuggles did, comforted him from age five when his parents started fighting, to now age fifteen where his parents still fight. going to the carnival is really one of the only good memories he still remembers very clearly of his father, and he hopes good memories start coming again soon.
