Harry stared at the letter on his desk, contemplating what he should do.
It had been two days since his birthday and he had been contemplating if he should use the port-key, or wait for the Weasleys to arrive to collect him, instead.
He gave a frustrated sigh and looked over at Hedwig, seeing that she was currently asleep in her cage.
"Ugh." He dropped back onto his bed, his legs dangling over the edge and his arms spread widely across the top, stretching in both directions.
He was only just entering the second half in his summer holiday and already he was wishing to be back at school. Like, who does that? Who goes home for the holidays and then spends the entire time in their bedroom, wishing that they were at school. But hang on, maybe that wasn't accurate. Rather, who spends their entire holiday in their bedroom, or being treated like a slave, while wishing that they were still in a place where they almost die pretty much annually. Him, that's who.
He groaned in the back of his throat and turned onto his side, pulling his legs up onto the bedding. It just seemed so confusion and his mind was in turmoil. For instance, he really wanted to go to Gringotts and find out why the goblins contacted him, but he was unsure about whether or not the headmaster would discover his leaving of the premises. And, on top of that, the port-key seemed to be a one-way sort of thing, meaning that he would have to find his own way back to Privet Drive, from almost central London. For that, he assumed that he would need money. There was always the night bus, but again, money. Plus, that would mean that he ran the risk of bumping into a witch or wizard who could recognise him.
"Ugh! I wish there was some way for me to travel without being recognised!" He announced to the empty room, other than himself and Hedwig.
Alas, there was no answer and as he turned over to get comfortable, eyes closed and ready for sleep, he missed the way that his own hair became encompassed in a rough scale textured sheen.

Harry woke up slowly, hearing the natural sounding chirps of the birds beyond his window and the silence that accompanied that early scene in the morning. None of the neighbours having woken yet, or those that had were not yet aware enough to actually leave the encompassing warmth in their memory foam, position support mattresses.
Harry turned onto his back and looked at his slightly yellowed, peeling ceiling, taking a moment to just blink and wake up properly. He allowed his arm to drape across his forehead and just breathed deeply, while he fully kickstarted his brain and bodily motor-functions.
There was a rattle to his left and he looked over with startled eyes to see his best friend and pet, Hedwig, flapping manically in her cage.
After a second of staring, his brain registered the noise and he jumped into action, moving across the room to release her from her small confides. Hopefully, before she woke his uncle. The man being the epitome of rude and grumpy, first thing in the morning. No, his uncle was definitely not a morning person. None of the Dursleys were, for that matter.
He shushed her and made calming gestures, trying to smooth the avian beauty, but only seeming to panic her more. After what felt like an agonising eternity, she finally went stock still and froze on the furthest side of her relatively small cage.
Harry looked at her curiously and moved his hand slowly towards the door of the cage, unlatching the metal bars and opening it only enough for him to slip his hand through.
He reached out his elegant, tan fingers to brush against the side of her plume, his eyes locked solely on her frazzled posture and seemingly hostile disposition, while he also tried to assess what the cause of her sudden irrational behaviour had been.
