The ride to Boney island was quite possibly the most uneasy experience I've had thus far on this program.
I was not adjusted to travel by sea, after all, I never had a reason to. As someone who feard the ocean like the plague, or just any body of water in general, it only made sense that seasickness wasn't far behind.
My stomach lurched back and forth inside me, nearly in tune with the waves crashing against the side of the boat. I felt every jolt of the vessel as I slumped over my knees, holding onto my stomach and trying a bit too hard to stop the color in my face from inverting. My throat felt clogged, a groan weakly forcing itself from the depths of my stomach.
And, if I were to guess, we hadn't even been out at sea for three minutes yet.
The nausea was far from the only thing on my mind at the moment. I kept thinking back to the situation at hand, yet no matter how many times I replay it in my head, I still could not receive a concrete understanding about it.
"We need to talk."
I had never been so perplexed over four words in my life. Let alone the fact that those four words came from Lightning, of all people. What could he have wanted? What was there to discuss? We had barely associated the past year due to him being so naively invested in his various sports teams, and my previous need to adjust to the Canadian lifestyle.
What was so important now that he had to drag me away from our team to a completely different island to discuss? I had no clue, and I continued that way for the entire boat ride. The mutual silence Lightning and I shared on the way wasn't the most ideal circumstance, but, what was I to do about? I could barely think cohesively, let alone speak while I'm surrounded by the liquidy bane of my existence.
Thankfully, as soon as it had begun, the ride was over. Before Chef even had a chance to exit the driver's area and tell us to get off, I threw myself overboard and landed face-first on the beach. I had never been so relieved to inhale sand in my life.
From what I could gather, with my face shoved some inches into the beach, Chef ordered Lightning to exit the vessel, and then proceeded to drive off without a word, stranding us here. I groaned, pushing my face up and shaking the minuscule pebbles and such out of my hair. It took me a moment to recover from the overwhelming discomfort the ride had given me, and once my vision had set, I noticed a hand hovering in front of me.
Knowing full well the only person it could be, and the fact that I would require some form of support if I tried to get up on my own, I took it. My knees buckled a little as I was yanked up to my feet, stumbling over and scrambling to grab hold of the man's arm to avoid collapsing. Luckily, it only took a few seconds longer to adjust from the sickly daze I had acquired, and once I could stand on my own, he began to walk off.
As I was unprepared to survive the night on my own, and requiring multiple answers, I scurried to follow him. He didn't seem to have much of a clue where he was going, judging by the tense presence he had, but his usual cocky facade remained, even if the deadpanned expression he held kept that at bay.
I matched his pace with my own, placing my hands behind my back as we strolled aimlessly through the forest. The incredibly barren trees stacked against one another, overwhelming the nearby flora with their dying numbers. Bushes were littered in between them, with constant rustlings of unknown means sending an anxious shiver down my spine.
Aside from the scuffling of dirt underneath my shoes and the assorted noises from the environment, nothing else could be heard. The two of us just walked in silence, seemingly going nowhere in more ways than one. I sighed, opting to bite the bullet while I could, and tried to initiate a conversation.
