We had been walking around New York University most of the day, but we had just stopped into a small sandwich shop.
We were sitting across the table from each other with our food.
"So what do you think so far?" I asked Alex.
"I really like it. It's a nice campus and I know it's a good school because my brother went here." She sipped her soda.
I just nodded.
"What do you think about it?" She continued.
"It's nicer than I thought honestly." I didn't know what to say about it. It was a really nice college, I would consider going to school there but I didn't want to say anything else to Alex because I didn't want her to think I was committed to anything.
"What would you major in?" She asked me.
"I haven't thought that far into it." I said.
"Hmm." She nodded while finishing off the last of her food.
About 3 or 4 hours later, we had finished looking at everything we wanted to see at NYU and we ended up strolling around the city.
"What do you wanna do now?" Alex looked up at me as we walked down a crowded street.
"I'm not doing anything else today, so we can just wander around if that's okay with you." I told her.
"Let's go in there!" Alex pointed to a small candy store.
"What's with you and candy? First the Twizzlers, now this?!" I laughed.
"You like it too!" She smiled.
We walked into the store and went over to a shelf with an assortment of chocolate.
"We should buy some." I would eat chocolate any time of day, it was one of my favorite foods ever.
"Okay! Dark or milk chocolate?" She asked, looking at the bars of chocolate.
"Why not both?" I shrugged my shoulders.
So we ended up buying both and we split them in half while walking down the street, which was now becoming dimmer and dimmer.
"New York City is one of my favorite places." I told her.
"Me too. As long as you can get past some of the weird smells!" She laughed.
"Good point." I added.
For the rest of the late afternoon, we went in and out of random stores, talking about random things. It was now after sunset and it was pretty cold. Alex and I were walking back to her car when we stopped to sit on a bench that had a pretty view of the lights and tall buildings around us.
"Even though it's the city that never sleeps, it's calm right now." Alex pointed out.
"It's nice though." I agreed.
"Yeah, cold, but nice." She replied, pulling her sleeves over her hands. Her blonde hair was tossed over her shoulder and she was simply admiring the city.
We stayed silent for a few minutes until Alex sighed and said "Well, it's getting kinda late, I guess we should go."
The drive home consisted of Twizzlers, good music, and us jokingly arguing about dumb things until she pulled into the front of my apartment building.
"Thanks for coming along, I know you didn't really want to." She smiled.
"Thank you. I had a great time, Alex." I replied. For a few seconds, which seemed like an eternity, we shared an awkward moment of us looking at each other, trying to figure out what to say.
Alex used those pretty brown eyes to signal goodbye and I gave her one last "Thanks" before getting out the car and awkwardly rushing into my apartment.
I guess that went well.
