Astrid had gone to see Gothi that day and was greatly relived to have Hiccup hear the results for her. They went home hand in hand and were very quiet along the way. Astrid didn't bother asking and Hiccup hesitated in telling. He was actually quite astounded at the information he received, but he didn't know how to tell Astrid.

They went home and and Hiccup went to his chiefing business. Later that night Hiccup came home and found Astrid in bed.

"Are you all right sweetie?" He asked.

"Not really." Astrid sighed rolling over

"What's wrong?"

"I feel nauseous." She replied.

"Oh I'm sorry honey." He said. "Will this make it better?" And he leaned in and gave her a long, passionate kiss. Surprisingly, Astrid started laughing. Her cheeks glowed red and her eyes began to dance despite her feeling ill.

"Hiccup!" She laughed. "What was that?"

Hiccup smiled and caressed her cheek. "I just love you." He said. "And I'm here for you, even and ESPECIALLY when you feel sick.

He gave her another peck on the lips and got up to undress. When he had done so he got in bed and snuggled up next to his wife and pulled her into his arms. To Astrid Hiccup seemed... Unusually happy and very lovey. Was there a reason for it? It wasn't even near their first anniversary, they weren't on their honeymoon, yet every time he kissed her it almost felt like he thought he never would kiss her again.

"Sooooooo..." Astrid asked. "What did Gothi say. I mean... I've gotta know sometime.

Hiccup paused. He didn't know what to say. "Astrid," he said, "I think... I think we need to take a little trip by ourselves. I... I just need to be alone with you. I don't know how I can tell you otherwise."

"Oh gracious, is something wrong with me??" Astrid thought.

"Why don't we go to the edge for a few days. I can tell you there." And he planted another long kiss on her lips.

Astrid wrapped her arms around Hiccup's torso and buried her face in his chest. He ran his hands along her back and kissed her head.

"I love you Astrid." Hiccup whispered.

.....

"Watch your step m'lady." Hiccup said holding it out his hand to Astrid who was disembarking their small ship by which they had sailed to the edge. Astrid stepped off the ship and right into her husband's arms. He held her there for a few moments. Then suddenly compelled, he kissed her.

He looked into her eyes and smiled at her. She looked into his eyes with a wonder and curiosity. She then burst into full on laughter when Hiccup picked her up and swung her around.

"What is with you Hiccup!?" Astrid laughed.

"I just love you!" Hiccup smiled. "This place is just full of memories. Memories of the beginning of... well, us. We fell in love here, and I'm still falling in love with you... Every day."

"I love you too Hiccup." Astrid said as he engulfed her in a hug. "I guess I never really thought of you as anything more than just a friend until that day when I got my sight back. I could see you again and I felt like I never wanted to lose you like that again. I just felt so happy that you were the first thing I saw. You cared about me and tried to protect me while I was blind and you were there with me when I could see again. Then I really thought I wanted to be with you for the rest of my life.

Tears were forming in Hiccup's eyes as he held Astrid to his chest and listened to what she said. "I knew I wanted to be with you for the rest of my life the moment I saw you. It's hard to believe, that I am married to the girl of my dreams I've loved since I was a teenager. You're actually mine and you're..."

"I'm what?" Astrid asked slightly alarmed.

"Nothing," Hiccup studdered. "You're just beautiful. I love you sweetheart."

"I love you too." Astrid said

.....

They spent the night there and it was like they were on their honeymoon all over again. There was a whole lot of cuddling and Astrid still noticed that Hiccup was being a bit extra tender. This made her wonder even more. "Is there something wrong with me? Am I gonna die or something?" But Hiccup seemed too... Well happy for that to be the case. Maybe he was just going through some kind of a phase.

"Hey Astrid," said Hiccup the next day as Astrid was finishing cleaning up after breakfast. "Come here, I have something to show you." He eagerly took her hand and pulled her along with him. But once they got outside he stopped.

"So you wanted to show me the front porch?" Astrid asked sarcastically.

"No hun," Hiccup replied. "I just have to blindfold you." And he gently tied the fabric around her eyes.

"But Hiccup, what if I fall?" She asked.

"It's okay love, I've got you." Hiccup said. He took her hand and wrapped his other arm around her waist. There was a tenderness and a gentleness in his touch Astrid didn't remember feeling. His hand found her belly and rested there ever gently. "Okay walk forward love." He instructed her.

He continued to sweetly instruct her which way to turn and guided her down off the platforms "That's it, to your left. You got it Astrid." He said as he held her and they walked. He guided her through the island and to a little hidden place they had liked to hang out sometimes in the days on the edge. "Okay Astrid." He said. "You can open your eyes now." and he gently took the blindfold off her eyes.

Astrid gasped at what she saw. The ground was covered in red rose petals. "Hiccup! What is this!? It's not even near our first anniversary or anything else special."

"Oh it's special Astrid." He said "You'll see. Look again."

Astrid looked closer and in the middle of the petal strewn ground was a small wooden table with three things on it. There was a little plush Toothless and a little Stormfly and beside them was a note. Astrid's breath grew quick. Could it be? Could this have been it all along? Everything was starting to make sense. She opened the note with trembling fingers.

My beloved Astrid,
Words cannot express how much I love you. When I heard what Gothi had to say, there was no other way I could think of to tell you that would do this news justice. I knew I had to do this when we were alone.
Astrid, my love, you are carrying inside your body our first child.

Astrid began to cry. Tears spouted out of her eyes and her chest heaved with sobs. She felt arms around her and the turbulent movements of Hiccup's own sobbing.

"You can't be serious Hiccup!" Astrid sobbed. "You better not be playing a joke on me."

"Oh Astrid!" Hiccup cried. "This is no joke. We're having a baby Astrid!" He looked her in the eye and brushed her hair out of her eyes. "I have been holding it in for the last few days. Sometimes I just wanted to be alone so I could cry. But now I don't care." He placed a hand on her belly and smiled through the tears that were running down his face. "We're having a baby Astrid!"
