Chapter II: Funky Town
I walked through the crowded hallways of my school, trying to get to my locker in record time. Somebody called my name; I turned my head around while still walking and barely saw Annie a few feet away from me when I crashed into something, or rather someone, since I was walking on the middle of the hallway.
“You should watch where you go” I recognize the voice immediately, what I didn’t get is why he had that grin on his face, and he had spoken so softly.
“Yes, I should, we wouldn’t want a repeat of this now, would we?” I said trying not to get caught in his intense gaze.
“I know I wouldn’t mind” He replied simply. What?? What was that supposed to mean?
The bell rang right there and I stood frozen, he walked around me.
“Damon, wait!” A few students… more like all of the students that were within the hearing radium turned and watched me. I felt like glaring at them and tell them to mind their own business. “You left this at my house” I said handing him the hoodie that had been in my backpack. He smiled cheekily.
“I know” He took the hoodie off my hands, “see you later Nick” he said and started walking away.
“What on earth did just happen?” Annie was probably as shocked as I was.
“I have no idea” I answered truthfully.
“You’re hooking up with Damon, how did you get him to like you” I heard a voice behind me. I turned around and came face to face with Jessica. She was the beach blonde Barbie. B-cubed as we used to call her. She wasn’t half bad, the girl just needed a little more self respect, I mean come on! She was screwing around with half school.
“Please don’t ever say anything like that again; I wouldn’t go near… him. Let along hook up with the guy” I answered and started off to my class, I was going to be late and I didn’t even get the chance to stop at my locker.
The morning passed in a blur and it was lunch time before I knew it. I sat at our usual table with Sheryl, Annie, Emily, Cody and Fred. Cody wouldn’t normally sit with us but Emily was still a little bit angry at him so he was sucking up. Fred was this really cute nerdy looking guy that happened to be in my Biology class. He used to sit with the Math club, but Annie and I were so in love with his cute boyish looks that we practically forced him to sit with us, he was like a puppy. A super clever and cute puppy. We promised we would make sure that he never dated anyone; we wouldn’t be able to stand sharing him.
I saw Damon and Jimmy walking towards their table, Jim stole a glance in our direction and I saw him narrow his eyes. Annie was playfully ruffling Fred’s hair. I chuckled to myself. Then, to my dismay, I locked eyes with Damon.
“Won’t you take me to Funky Town? Won’t you take me to Funky Town?”
I burst out laughing all of the sudden and Damon furrowed his brows in confusion.
“Funky Town? Really?” I looked over at Fred still laughing hard; he shrugged and answered his phone. And… it was his mom. Yeah, this couldn’t get any better. The entire table laughed while Fred tried to understand his mom on the phone.
“What’s so funny?” Ruining the moment again Ferran, the guy has perfect timing.
“Funky Town” I answered nonchalantly, took a sip of my apple juice and stood up. “I’m going to the library; I have so homework to do”.
“Nerd” shot Damon with that sly smile that he seems to wearing quite often around me. I looked at him up and down, this took him by surprise.
“Hmm… You’re not even worth it” I retorted after a moment. I saw a flash of anger in his eyes but he quickly recovered and smirked. I stood up, grabbed my tray and started walking towards the trash can. He followed suit. Did I offend the Gods? Did I do something terribly wrong to deserve his attention?
