Laying underneath the duvet, I snuggle the silk sheet up against my cheek. Remaining in the same position, the warmth calming my senses as the sun rose to bring forth the new day. As the shadows crept back into the corners, the light moved across the floor and up the walls. Once the grandfather clock struck seven, my eyelid flutters open. Lilyan still laying across from me eloped in a deep slumber. I stay still, patiently waiting for my sleepy self to wake up.What lay ahead for this day? We finally are here, and the festival begins later in the month. Another week before they elevate us into 'high society' Or just walk back and forth, bowing with each other till the Royal Family makes an entrance. A small knock came to the door. "Come in," I chirp from my bed. One of the smaller girls who arrived with us slowly shuffled inside, holding her sheets tightly around her shoulders. "Eden, you're the highest rank among us, please I," she mumbled her words, looking to her feet "I want to go home," She finishes, looking back up, a soft tear staining her cheek. I couldn't recount whose family she's from. Just the dark chestnut hair seemed familiar.
"What I don't understand?" I sat up quickly, slipping from the bedside, and rushing to comfort the girl. Lilyan stirs, sitting up groggily as well to ask, "Who wants to leave."
Both of us are now wondering the same thing. "I don't know what happened but, but I woke up with," she whimpers, removing the sheet from her body. Adoring across the right shoulder, thick, swollen markings, blood droplets oozing from the fresh wounds. The entire top half of the girls' nightgown soaked thoroughly through. Startled, I hover my hand over the wounds, parting the fabric from the skin. Lighting pressing two of my fingertips against the gashes, the shredded skin bruised and tender. A large bite mark donned her flesh. "Someone's marked her," Lilyan said, leaning in for a closer look. This wasn't possible, it was forbidden. I lower the same piece of bloody fabric, shielding the wound. What sick creature marks a girl in her sleep. The poor thing falls apart, her sobs getting louder. "Do you know who did this?" I ask, standing up, placing my hand on her other shoulder.
"Um. I'm not sure. My roommate left to go exploring while I slept, and the next thing I know the pillow was drenched." she whimpers
It's not unheard of for male Lycan to have an increase of hormones after finding their mate, but the first time I've seen one marked on site.
The energy vibrations rise, the floors trimmer than quick-paced footsteps stopped outside our door.
"No no, it's" - slam, our door hits the wall. A humongous man stands in a blood rage. Their veins bulging with each breath, canines on show.
"You have something which belongs to me," he said with a blunt edge. Taking strides towards the girl. What's with these males, we aren't just possessions to rut and claim. The growling encrypts my thoughts, as he eyes my hand resting on his mate's shoulder.
Lifting my palm, curling my fingers into a fist. "You have no right to be in here." Lilyan chips in as the words left my mouth, "yeah you creep, back off." Well-done team nightgowns or pardon our tongues. Lilyan stood alongside me, glaring daggers.
The man's nails extended into the hounds' claws, I returned the favor, doing the same. The rumbles quicken from his chest, and he steps in our direction, but...
"Morning girls," incomes a hobbling Magret, her stick blocking our male guest from coming closer. She shuffles in, more bowls of broth in her other free hand. "Oh my little Ethel, your bleeding," she stops in front of us, completely ignoring the raging loon behind her. So the little one's name is Ethel. Removing her stick from the mans' chest, using it to now part the fabric from the skin as I did before. "Oh, congratulations, child," she pokes the bite mark, "You've met your mate." Her facial expression was warm and friendly, turning around to the man now.
