I swear if one's entire body shuts down piece by piece. Slowly becoming motionless as it all switches off. In the last few seconds, your heartbeat is all you can hear, every pound louder and louder if screaming out for someone.

Well, that was my current state.

The people surrounding me were in another dimension. Totally oblivious even to the obvious fact that the Royal family had vanished without a trace. Everyone else was happily applauding as another song came to an end. Rubbing my palm against the other, gripping the fleshy bit with my nails as anxiety set in. The scent loomed around me, flooding down the stairwell like an invisible lake. Not able to pinpoint its source, my wolf shared my anxious mindset. It was torture for both of us.

A familiar voice joined the orchestra's musical performance. Nena followed each strum with a low hum, picking up her vocals as she sang soft lyrics. A song that is well-known by all, I recall my mother sang it to my brother and me as a lullaby. Yet the story behind it made it not just beautiful but powerful. The song had another addition as Charlotte cleared her throat. Turning her head to check behind her, only to quickly face forward again with a hectic expression. And just like that, she returns to her statuesque self.

Heads snapping all around to face in her direction, even I at this point awaited her next move. As if in cue another set of figures appear from the top of the staircase. A feet width apart it slowly all fell into place. The King and Queen both in sync and emotionless, it was startling. The two of them stopped on the same stair as Charlotte, Cinea beside her and exchanging a quick whisper. Charlotte's stern expression is equal to her tone. She took Cinea's hand into hers, firmly pressing her fingernails into the palm.

"Has it been done?" What has been done? An unsettled Cinea slowly nods her head as her hand is released.

"All you've done is burdened us all." She replies in a low murmur. "You damn my son, knowing he'll be set afire." She said, rubbing her palm and dimming her head low.

Shocked by the response, Charlotte's demeanor took a turn..."And you'll thank you for it one day, you can't break an oath. Blood for blood just as promised."

I know it is an idiotic thing to do but anyone could have listened in on them, Heck might as well plastered it their foreheads. It was an obvious disagreement. Over what; is the part taking control of my curious mind. Anything too desensitizes me to my wolf shifting her stance within from panicked to lunatic every other second.

The repetition of waiting around for yet another dramatic entrance was far from entertaining. People gushed and cheered each time they'd take a breath. Of course, the idea of being praised and sighted by noble blood would make anyone giddy. At least 60 percent of the crowd attends to the Royals daily. But on a serious thought, we've amused ourselves the majority of the evening.

The snippet I stole from reality was up as the royal's faces brightened. Spinning their bodies, they watched as the tip of a shadow came forth. Step by step the figure emerged. With a still tranquillity, the broad outline of robust masculinity strides into view. Each second he drew nearer was an eternity, the sheer sight of such a specimen would bring a fool to their knees. So far yet, I swear I could have felt him up close beside me.

A sense of slow-motion trapped me in a loop. And I knew who brought this upon me.

Another step, just one more, and I'd get a clear line of sight. Nothing has changed from the original situation. But, even the thought of seeing his facial features was enough to make my wolf rowdy. I thought she was intense before but nothing prepared me for this.

I couldn't handle it. Within a millisecond both my eyes beckon a ghostly pearlescent white. The enhanced sight capturing the exact moment his head rose slightly... Mother have mercy.
