Lachlan's P.O.V

Angelica is my best friend and have been since I met her in the beginning of 8th grade. She was the first person that I felt comfortable with since I moved to Toronto from Brisbane.

I walked into my 8th grade class on the first day of school. Everyone seemed close and knew each other. My classmates took one look at my tan skin, curly blonde hair, ocean eyes and heard my Aussie accent. I might as well been from another planet because they treated me like I was an alien.

There was a girl that sat right in front of me. She was the only person who I saw that wasn't with a certain crowd. Actually, I saw her sit nicely alone with her head buried in a sketch pad.

This girl look interesting, at least to me. I wanted to be her friend because she looked friendly but shy. She had long dark brown hair that was tied up in a pony tale. Stray flyaways poked up but she didn't really notice or care. She had beautiful eyes. It looked hazel inside but bluish green outside. She wore a pink hoodie with plain black leggings and shoes.

I didn't really have a chance to talk to her during class but there was always recess.

When the recess bell had rung, everyone jumped out of their seats and sprinted out the door. I walked slowly behind everyone, wondering where the girl went. I lost track of her when everyone left.

I walked around outside, feeling neglected when I finally spotted her. She was up against the wall, looking around. People would usually think a kid standing alone against the wall is a loser but she looked like she was just fine with being alone.

I walked up to her and smiled.

"Hey, I'm Lachlan."

I greeted her, a little awkward. The girl smiled at me, looking as if she was happy I decided to approach her.

"I know. You're in my class. I'm Angelica."

She responded. I stood up against the wall beside her and shoved my hands in my hoodie pocket.

"Why are you here all alone?"

I wondered. Angelica shrugged.

"I'm not girly enough for the girls and the boys don't like playing sports with a girl, so I just stand here."

Angelica responded. She didn't ask why I was alone. Then again, it was probably obvious.

"You like sports?"

I asked, hopeful. I loved playing any kind of sport but my most favourite is rugby. In Australia, I was on the boys rugby team ever since I was 6.

"I do. I'm not good at all but I like swimming. I bike in the summer and play ball hockey or baseball with my cousins."

Angelica answered. I beamed, now getting excited.

"That's awesome! I like any kind of sport but my favourite is rugby."

I told her. Angelica nodded.

"Well, tomorrow I can bring a soccer ball or football and we can play at recess."

Angelica offered.

"I think I would like that."

I said.

After that day, Angelica and I became inseparable. She was my best friend and I think she always will be.

Even in high school.

I hope.
