Luc and Rem

"Oliver?" The boy looked down at the paper of boy names. "Oliver Joshep Ryland...no I don't like that name." He crossed that name out and went to the next one. "Lucas....Lucas Joshep Ryland." He was silent for a moment before nodding "That's the one!" He giggled, hearing two ribbets after. "Oh sorry, guys." He went over to the frog cage and put some bugs in there for the two frogs to eat. "I am Lucas." He sighed, running his fingers through his newly chopped hair. "I've always been Lucas. Just now I know it!" He nodded, grabbing his bag and leaving. "Uncle! I'm going to see Remi!!" Lucas left quickly, running to his best friends house.

"Grace, stop knocking!" Lucas frowned at the name, but of course he couldn't expect anything else, he hadn't told Remi to call him Lucas yet. That's why he was here.

*what if he hates me?*

He shook his head, Remi wouldn't hate him just because he's not a she anymore. The door opened revealing the tall friend.

"Oh, you got a haircut." Remi smiles. "It looks nice, though I guess I can't braid your hair for you anymore." He motioned for Lucas to come in.

"Yeah, actually, I, uh, need to tell you some serious things!!" Lucas fidgeted nervously. "I'm a boy, and my names Lucas, and uh yeah."

"But...your birth certificate says Grace?"

"Yeah but I'm not a girl..." Remi hummed. "It's uh, it's called Transgender. I'm a transgender boy, and my new name is Lucas Joshep." Remi nodded.

"So it's...it's okay not to identify as the gender I was born as?"

"Of course Rem! You can be a girl, or non-binary, or agender or whatever! As long as it makes you feel comfortable." Remi nods.

"Thank you, Luc-"

"That's such a cute nickname!"

"-That's helpful...I never quite felt comfortable as a boy honestly...I'll have to do some more research." Lucas nodded before hugging his best friend.

"If you need any help I'm here for you!"

Months later

Now it was Remi knocking on Lucas' door. Lucas ran down the stairs opening the door and almost jumping at Remi. "Rem!" Remi chuckled softly.

"I have something important to say, from now on I would prefer Xe/xem or Xe/xer pronouns." Lucas nodded, repeating it to himself.

"You still Remi?" Remi nodded.

"Yes, I quite like my name...I'm Agender by the way."

"Thanks for telling me!"

"Thanks for listening."
