Grace sat on the wooden swing that hung from the tree in her yard. She slowly kicked her feet, the swing rocking back and forth. She hummed a soft tune as she admired her new neighbor hood.

'Theres lots of kids to play with!' Her Uncle Ben would remind her over the phone.

'Don't get too attached,' Uncle Abe would grumble, walking out the door with a ciggerate hanging from his lips.

So she isolated herself, staying in her yard. By herself.

She soon got bored of the swing and hopped up, sitting under the trees. She tucked her skirt underneath her, spreading her legs straight out infront of her, grabbing her notebook and pencil, beggining to sketch fields of lavender.

Lavender was alot of things. Lavender was...a scent. A flower. A color (not that she would know)

Lavender was a fun word to say. It was probably someones name...

"Lavender," she said, the word spilling from her lips. She soon finished her drawing, about to head inside to ask Uncle Ben for a lavender crayon.

When she saw a boy.

He wore long sleeves, despite the blazing heat, and long jeans. His hair was drawn back into a small bun, his eyes were reading a book as he walked forward.

For some reason she was drawn to the barely older boy, slowly leaning down to pick up her frog plush. Expect for she grabbed a rock instead, the sharp edge scrapping her hand. She jumped back, tripping over her untied shoes and dropping her notebook onto the sidewalk.

The boy picked it up, silently holding it out to her.

As Grace stared at the book, a look of fear on her face, the boy spoke.

"I'm Remi," He was about to say more, when an older teen began running down the sidewalk, shouting 'Remi!' as he did so. "I can't talk now, but its nice to meet you," he spoke in a monotone voice, handing the book back.

Grace was unuse to kids being kind. So she smiled, and as the boy ran off she carefully walked closer to the sidewalk, making sure her feet never left the soft grass of her front yard.

"I-I'm Grace!"
