Slimmer of Hope

It was the next day and I was sitting up looking out the window thinking about what happened yesterday. The door opened but I didn't acknowledge it. I heard a bunch of footsteps walk in. "Hey Maria how are you feeling?" I heard Nogla asked. I looked down from the window.

"Nogla, Delirious I'm sorry for what I said yesterday I know you two still feel guilty even though you shouldn't. Even if I'm upset about it doesn't mean I'm upset at you it happened it's in the past what's happening now isn't because of you so please don't feel that way." I said and looked over to them.

They looked at each other and didn't say anything then looked back at me. "That didn't really answer my question now did it. Maria it's ok we talked about it last night and we're ok so answer my question." Nogla said giving me a small smile. "I'm still in pain but it's not as bad." I said looking at my legs. "My legs are completely numb but my back still hurts" I said looking back over to them.

"Has anyone come in here to check on you yet?" Mark asked stepping up next to the bed. "Not that I know of I just woke up not to long ago." I said grabbing the remote from the bed. "I can call to get some pain meds." I said looking at the buttons. "No need I'm here to check on you." The doctor said walking into the room.

"Good timing" my dad said stepping out of the way so the doctor could get to me. "I kind of figured she would be awake by now since you guys were coming to see her. So Maria how bad is the pain on a scale from 1-10" he said setting his clipboard down. "Um 8 it's not as bad but still hurts." I said and he nodded and wrote something down.

"Alright well I have some news. We ran some test and the results came back." He said turning twords me. "We found out that the damage to your back was worse then we thought. You'll have to go into surgery if you ever want to walk again." He said and I was stunned I had no words. "She only needs surgery because of my poor excuse of a dad." Wildcat said catching my attention.

"That may be so but I think it's up to Maria to decide." My dad said putting his hand on Wildcat's shoulder. "So what do you say Maria it's up to you." The doctor said setting the clipboard down on the bed. "Um.. I'll go with the surgery. I think it's the best option." I said gripping my blanket tight. Nogla grabbed my hand and rubbed his thumb on the top of it gently.

I started calming down and let go of the blanket. "Thank you Nogla." I said flipping my hand around taking his hand into mine. "We'll be here for you so if you're scared you can lean on us." He said tightening his grip gently. "Yeah Nogla's right we're here for you all the way." Delirious said putting his hands on wildcat and vanoss's shoulders. "Thanks guys I really appreciate it." I said with a small smile.

"Come on guys let's get out of the way so the doctors can get her prepped for the surgery." Dad said running the guys out of the room. Nogla gave my hand one last gentle squeeze before heading out to door fallowing everyone else. Dad was the last one to leave. "Everything will be ok Maria we'll see you after the surgery love you." He said waiting in the doorway.

"Love you too Dad" I said and he fully left. "Well let's get you prepped for surgery we're going to need you laying down on your stomach." The doctor said putting a iv in my arm. I fallowed his institutions and flipped over. He continued prepping me so I just decided to relax and comfort myself.

When he was all done he told me that it was time so he rushed me off to the room where they will perform my surgery. I was a little scared but the doctor helped me calm down. "Alright Maria we're about to put you under are you ready?" He asked and I nodded. He put a mask over my face and told me to take deep breaths. After three I was out like a light.
