~Shota's POV~
Flashback:(Shota and Hizashi Age 24, Miki Age 10)
Hizashi and I finished rounding up some second-rate thugs that thought they could rob a convenience store we frequently stopped at on our way back to our apartment. We waited outside in the cool evening air. The full moon was masked by rain clouds and a cold drizzle trickled from above. I glanced up as I heard the approach of the police and saw their flashing lights reflecting off all the windows of the various closed shops on the street. There were three cars, that was odd, the dispatcher said they were only sending two since there were only four villains.
A young deputy exited the third car and raced toward us. He was white as a sheet and looked very distraught at whatever news he had to share. "Present Mic!"
Hizashi turned, "what up, listener?" He replied obnoxiously as the officers of the other vehicles began apprehending the criminals and reading them their rights.
The young deputy faltered a moment and bowed his head before continuing softly, "there was a fire..."
A cold chill ran down my spine.
Hizashi hadn't quite caught it, "did you need us to check it out? That's not really our thing but we could hel-."
"Um...no...Present Mic, your parent's house caught fire." The officer bowed his head again, "I'm very sorry but Mr. and Mrs. Yamada didn't make it."
Hizashi's eyes grew wide in disbelief. He lost all manner of his jovial rock and roll persona. "Miki? Is she okay?" His voice shook. The news had hit him like a ton of bricks, I could see his entire body trembling, threatening to fall him.
I took a step toward him and placed a hand on his shoulder giving him a comforting squeeze, trying to offer him support. The police officer nodded, "your sister is at the hospital now, I can give you a ride there, I don't have current updates on her condition but the last report I received said she was going to make a full recovery, I rushed here as soon as I could."
I could see him still trying to process everything and nodded politely to the young deputy. "Thank you. Let's go." I steered him toward the deputy's car. The other officers had overheard and let us go, I knew they'd get our statements later and was grateful they were giving us some space as I was afraid Hizashi might crumble at any moment. He was always so cool in a crisis but when it came to his family, he was a mess, especially when it came to his kid sister, Miki.
The deputy drove like a bat out of hell to the hospital with his lights flashing and siren blasting to get people out of his way. We got there in record time. Hizashi had fallen into a morose comatose state buried by the weight of the news the deputy had dropped on him. I managed to get a firm grip on his upper arm and drag him along, somehow keeping him upright. The deputy led us to the nurse's station. He exchanged a few quick words with the nurse. A look of sorrowful understanding crossed her face as she realized the situation.
