~Miki's POV~
Towards the end of the first week of school, on a Thursday, the front office administrator burst into our classroom and signed rapidly to the teacher. I caught a bit of the message; I was being pulled from class. The teacher nodded. A few other students who had caught them signing looked to me curiously. The office attendant turned to me with a somber smile.
"Miss Yamada, can you come with me?" She asked in a soft voice. "Bring your things."
I felt a moment of panic grip me; something was wrong. Shakily, I gathered my things and excused myself from the classroom. Anxiousness wormed through me as I followed the office administrator to the front office. There was a police officer waiting. My heart dropped. Did something happen to Shota or Hizashi?
"Miss Yamada?" The police officer asked.
I nodded.
"I need you to come with me, there was an attack at UA-." He continued talking but I didn't hear anything after that, my mind immediately went to the worst possible place. Overcome with dark emotions of panic and grief, tears welled in my eyes. The police officer gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze and ushered me out of the office. His strong hand's gripping my shoulders was probably the only thing keeping me upright.
He led me to his awaiting car and opened the passenger door for me. I wasn't sure if he was still trying to talk to me and calm me down or not. My brain wasn't working right, I couldn't seem to hear properly. I felt like I was underwater, struggling to breathe, and everything sounding warped and twisted.
The police officer drove quickly to the hospital. He illegally pulled into the ambulance lane to get me inside as quickly as possible. I spotted Hizashi pacing in the waiting room and felt a moment of relief, he was okay! I ran to him as tears streamed down my cheeks and dove into his arms. He held me tightly against him and looked to the officer who'd brought me here. My heart sank as I realized Shota was the one who had been hurt.
"Thanks, I really appreciate it." Hizashi nodded to the officer.
The officer bowed and excused himself, leaving us alone. Hizashi gently rubbed my back in an attempt to calm me down.
"Sorry for the scare, Miki-chan." He kissed the top of my head, "The doctor already said Shota's going to make a full recovery." Despite his words, I wouldn't believe it and I couldn't calm down until I saw him with my own two eyes.
I fumbled to get my phone and try to communicate him. My vision was too blurred with tears I wasn't sure my words were making sense as I tried to type out a message and ask what happened. Hizashi rocked me in his arms and tried to calm me.
"Miki, it'll be okay." He said softly, "I need you to calm down, if you get too upset you might activate your quirk." He held me tightly, I could feel his body trembling as he too was overcome with emotion. "C-come on, if Shota saw us right now, he'd yell at us for being babies." He sniffled.
I bit my lip to keep any accidental noises from escaping and hugged him tightly burying my face in his chest. Once we both calmed a little, a nurse came to greet us and show us to Shota's hospital room. Hizashi kept a firm hold on my hand and I wasn't sure if it was because he needed the comfort or if he thought I did. We followed the nurse through a brightly lit hallway to the Intensive Care Unit.
We stepped into Shota's room and I felt my heart stutter in my chest and my blood turn to ice in my veins. A gasp escaped me as I saw him wrapped heavily in bandages and connected to all manner of monitors and IV's. Hizashi tightened his grip on my hand.
"Come on, Miki-chan, it's okay. He's going to make a full recovery." Hizashi tried to be strong for me but I knew he was just as upset, Shota had been his best friend for nearly twenty years, longer than I'd even been alive. "You know it would make him feel better if he could see you smiling rather than crying." Hizashi was trying his best to get me to keep calm and stop crying so I wouldn't accidentally hurt anyone.
