~Miki's POV~
The weekend after the Sports Festival, Hizashi was off to some radio host convention. It took some convincing to get him to let me stay home with Shota and Grey. Reluctantly he agreed. Shota was no longer a mummy but was still sporting some scars from the USJ attack. His shoulder, where some of the heaviest damage had been, still seemed a little tender but for the most part he was back to normal and had resumed cooking all of our meals again.
I felt bad I hadn't been able to do more, I still hadn't conquered my fear of cooking on the stovetop. Every time I had tried Shota would make some excuse or act like he wanted something that was much easier to prepare. He did it on purpose so I wouldn't have to face my fears. Now that he was back to cooking, I hoped he'd let me help him out and help me get over my fear.
As we were about to prepare dinner, my phone buzzed atop the kitchen table. Shota picked it up for me as I finished getting out all of the ingredients we were going to use for dinner. I assumed it was Hizashi with his millionth text since leaving an hour ago asking if I was missing him or telling me he was already 'Miki sick' which was a weird version of homesick. Shota said it was criminal and suggested I call child protective services. Sometimes when he told jokes I wasn't sure if he was kidding or not.
"It's Yaoyorozu." Shota said softly and handed me my phone.
I was momentarily surprised; I wasn't used to having friends or getting messages from them. I took my phone from him and opened the message.
Y: Hey Miki, a few of us from Class 1A were going to go see a movie, would you like to join us?
I stared down at my phone in awe. I'd never been invited out with friends before. A strange sensation washed over me as Shota erased my quirk.
"Everything okay?" He asked worried, I must have revealed the shock I was feeling on my face.
I nodded, "...um...they invited me to the movies...can I go?"
Shota looked to the ingredients I'd just laid out on the counter before offering me a small smile, "if you want to."
"Really?" I asked in awe. Hizashi would have put up much more of a fight.
He nodded.
"Thanks, Nii-san!" I threw my arms around him, excited that I was getting to do something normal like go to the movies with my first ever friends. My heart skipped a beat as he caught me, somewhat startled by my hug and hugged me back after a moment. The hug lasted a little longer than either of us had expected and when I stepped away, I could feel my face burning with heat.
Blushing, I escaped to my room to text Yaoyorozu back and find something to wear to go out with my friends. Remembering how Hizashi usually freaked out if I tried to leave the house in anything too cute, I settled on a pair of jeans and a fun flowy green top that fell off my shoulders. I got some money out of my piggy bank from various odd jobs I'd done for our neighbors like watching their pets or plants when they were out of town. I tucked my money in a cute little Hello Kitty mermaid purse Shota had gotten me on one of our many Hello Kitty adventures. For a brief moment I felt the need to put on makeup but remembered I didn't have any. Hizashi had always been worried it would make me look too mature and I'd get preyed upon by creeps.
After brushing out my hair, I checked my phone. Yaoyorozu said she was sending a car to pick me up. I felt a little nervous at the celebrity treatment. There was a soft knock at my door as I was finishing getting ready. Shota poked his head in after waiting a polite moment as he always did. He looked to me and I saw his brows crease a little with worry.
