The next day, Hermit and David make their way onto the Arnea's battle field. The crowd is locked in a deafening roar. Kyla, Blare, Chad, Grace, and Joy sit in the stands, cheering also. Hermit notices Joy and waves to her. Joy shyly waves back.
Blare leans over and looks at Joy, eyebrows fluttering. "Look who has a new friend!!!"
Joy glares. "He saved me, we are barely acquaintances."
"Bet you want to be more thou!!!" Grace chimes in.
"NOT YOU TOO!!!" Joy exclaims.
Kyla looks over. "Oh leave her alone... besides, I have not heard any interest in seeing his cave!"
Joy glares again, this time at Kyla. "Hermit is his name, not his living arrangement."
"How do you know?" Blare asks.
"He is a gentleman, and he smells good...."
"OHHH!!!!" Blare and Grace shout, interrupting Joy.
"SHUT UP!!" Joy yells angerly.
"In the east corner, Doctor David Brown, our local Pokemon Clinic Doctor. A talented trainer from the Kanto Region!" Ivory's voice shouts, barely drowned out by the roar from the crowd. "And in the west corner, Sir Hermit, a newcomer and also from the Kanto Region. An equally as accomplished trainer. THIS WILL BE A CLOSE MATCH!!!"
David and Hermit meet in the middle of the field.
"Thank you for saving my friend Joy." David says, shaking Hermit's hand.
Hermit shakes his hand. "My pleasure. After we are done, maybe we can talk."
"I look forward to it. May the best trainer win." David says, as he turns away.
As they turn to walk away, they both wave to the crowd. The crowd goes wild.
"Jeez, this crowd loves these two." Chad says.
"Imagine how the finals will be, no one will be able to hear themselves think." Kyla says.
"BEGIN!" Jordan's voice booms across the speakers.
Hermit and David both throw their Pokeballs at the same time. Out pops a Hitmontop for Hermit and a Blaziken for David.
"Let's take a page from Kyla's book, Blaz, Overheat!" David orders.
Blaz engulfs himself in fire, creating a shield of spinning hot air.
Hermit smiles. "Never thought this was going to be easy. Rain Dance!"
Hitmontop begins to dance as clouds form above the Arena and rain begins to fall.
David smirks. "Nope. Nothing is ever that easy."
Blaz stands still as the rain evaporates as quickly as it reaches him. Blaz smiles and taks a fighting stance.
Hermit shrugs. "It was worth a shot. Wide Guard, Double Team!"
Hitmontop puts up his guard and begins to seemly split into doubles.
Blaz looks between them and uses Flame Charge at one. When he phases through it, he turns quickly, on one hand, and hits the other with a Blaze Kick.
Hitmontop is knocked into a Rapid Spin, which he uses to counter with a Triple Kick.
Blaz ducks and counters with a Low Sweep. Hitmontop is knocked off balance as Blaz follows up with a combo of Fire Punch and Blaze Kick.
Hitmontop flies into a nearby wall.
"Hitmontop, Rolling Kick."
Hitmontop comes charging back and hits Blaz, who stands firm and glares.
