Crescent Academy. The school for the strange. Few see this school. Few humans that is. Because at Crescent Academy, only Hemi attend.

What is a Hemi? A half-blood. Half human and half... Well no one knows. Hemies are descendants of the Insolutus people, who were although strange, were human. The legends say that one day, a man came to their village. He seduced and mated with the Queen of the Insolutus, and she had a single child. The First Hemi. The First was the most powerful Hemi ever born. They say we are all weaker because the First mated with a human, which made the blood less powerful. In fact, they say that's why a Hemi's child can be born human. But of course, there is a way to tell Hemis from humans at birth, because Hemies are always born with a mark.

The mark is always different, although eyes are the most common. And I don't mean eyes, I mean strange eyes. Like cat eyes or orange eyes. But it can be anything from a strange hair colour to skin to tattoo-like markings. Hemies attend this school for one sole purpose: training. We train. And train. And train. To get to Math class alive. And train some more, until we are ready. Ready for what? To fight Daemn of course.

Daemn, the demons from Orci, a.k.a Hell. Orci is a dimension of evil, the only other known dimension. Or at least the only one connected to earth. It is what so many religions based their hells on. And their demons on the Daemn.

I am a sixteen year old Hemi, or so they say. Because there is something strange about me. I have the strength, power, agility and speed of a Hemi. The markings, two actually, which is a good sign. Unnaturally bright electric blue eyes and matching zigzag markings up my arms like lightning captured on my skin. But...

"So have you ever been to school before?" Her voice was crisp, authoritative.

"I was home schooled." She scribbled a note down in her book.

 "By who? Your parents?"

I barked a short humourless laugh. "I've already told you. Or don't you remember? My parents were gone before I could walk."

"Then by who?"

I looked her in the eye. "Why should I tell you, Panda?"

She sputtered with rage. "Panda!?" She screeched. The guards snickered. "Miss Tiensee! I am no panda."

"Sorry to break it to you but you look like one big blue panda." Wild rage filled her eyes. I held my hands up innocently. "I'm just been honest." I looked her over. Yep, definably a big blue panda. Blue spots over her eyes, her ears, arms, hand and eyes were all the same blue. I didn't know about the rest of her, but her top half looked like a big blue panda.

She took a deep breath. "How old are you?"

"Sixteen."

"You sure?"

"Yes I'm sure!"

"Your power?"

"What?"

"Your power."

"Um, I can eat a dozen hotdogs in under two minutes."

"What? No, your Hemi power? Are you an Elementalist? An Empath? What?"

"Elementa-what? And what the hell is an Empath?"

"An Elementalist is someone who can control an element, like moving water to your will. It's one of the most common powers. And an Empath is someone who can feel others emotions."

"Ok, I don't know about Elementalists, but been an Empath seems to me like having a crappy power."

"Then what is your power?"

"I don't have one."

"Impossible..."
