"Liar!" shouted the Big Blue Panda.
"Seriously! I didn't know about powers! Didn't know Hemies had powers! Didn't know Hemi even existed." That last one was a lie, I knew there was Daemn, humans and an unnamed race that I am a part of. And I knew they were after me. Stupid 'Train all Hemies today so they may live tomorrow' policy. No dropouts at this school, they hunt us down and drag us back.
"Guard, bring her to Ms Liang. She'll figure it out." The one guard took me by the arm and escorted me out of the room. He hovered protectively, like he was afraid I'd bolt.
What a dumb idea. I thought to myself. Why would I bolt when I have nothing to knock him out with? And I'd wait for a way better opportunity, since a power would be an advantage in escaping. We went through hallway after hallway until we reached an open door. Inside, a woman hunched over her work at her desk. The guard rapped on the door frame, sending the woman's hair to whip up in a flurry of red hair.
"Yes, yes. Come in. Yes you can leave if you want, Hansel. But fetch Ms Moore first." The guard, Hansel, nodded and left. Leaving me there. "Well, take a seat." She said. I looked upon her, pale skin, square jaw, and vines growing on her face. I wondered if they were real."So, why you here?"
"Find my power."
"You mean you haven't found it yet?"
"No..."
"Oh, well, usually Hemies have there power by now. Some are just... harder to find."
"Because there weak." By the look on her face, I knew I hit the bull's eye. It bothered me, been considered a weak one among my race. Where I came from, strength was everything. You needed power to survive. Life was a battle of the fittest. And in that battle, the weak always perished.
"Not weak, just undeveloped. Training will help, but we have to find your power first." She stood up and grabbed various items before placing a plant, a bowl of water that she filled with a water bottle and a candle that she quickly lit with a match. "Alright, try moving the water." She showed me several techniques before I concentrated on the water. Five minutes later, nothing. Next she instructed me to try the dirt in the plant pot. Nothing. I was concentrating on the flame when she came in.
"I'm here! Sorry I'm late." A woman, I assumed she was Ms Moore came in. Her hair was blue, as were her eyebrows. But brown eyes looked at me from under the crown of blue and white dots on her forehead. "No, it isn't dyed. No Hemi ever dyes her hair because it is rude to those who were born with strange hair as a markings." I wondered if she noticed me looking or if she just says that to everyone. I doubted the former, due to the fact that no one ever notices when I'm looking. I'm much to stealthy. "No, I didn't see you looking, and I don't say that to everyone. I'm a Telepath. I read your mind dear Ivy."
"What!" I exclaimed angrily. How dare she intrude on my private space?
"Sorry, it's rude to read others minds. But we are testing you, so I must." She turned to Ms Liang "And she is not a fire Elementalist, or else it would have moved when I surprised her. And the air didn't change, no wind or anything, so she's not an air Elementalist either."
"What's it like, hearing thoughts?"
"Oh, you'll learn the basics in class. But it's like been in a crowded room, loads of conversation. But nothing is clear unless something is very loud or you concentrate on one." Ms Liang put all the objects away. "Alright then, let's try..."
