What A Tease!

Chapter 10

(Zachs POV)

 

Aiden left for Finland yesterday and today Ash and I are working at the club. There’s an event tonight and the manager needed extra help. I am actually feeling a bit worried for leaving Lexie at home by herself. Don’t ask me why, I don’t even know. It’s not like she wouldn’t be able to protect herself if something happened. I guess I don’t want Chris coming back. I don’t think he would hurt her.. but what if he tries something. Then maybe I should be worried for his sake.

‘’What are you laughing at?’’ My thoughts were interrupted by Asher who just served a man his drinks. ‘’Nothing!’’ My answer came too quickly and he looked at me suspiciously. He obviously let it go and went back to work. If he found out that i was thinking about his sister when i really didn’t need to, he would start worrying about unnecessary stuff… right?

Our shift was almost over when two girls came up to the bar and asked for a drink. ‘’What kind of drink would you like?’’ It may have sounded rude but it was obvious that they only came over for one thing. One was checking Asher out. She didn’t even take her eyes of of him and the other girl was checking me out. It was as if they had decided since earlier who would have who. ‘’Now, Now my friend. Don’t be so rude to these beautiful girls. I would recommend the red pegasus. It’s my specialty.’’ Asher liked the attention and flirted with the girls. The girls flirted back. The one who was checking him out went to me and tried starting a conversation. The girl who had been checking me out had all her attention on Ash now. ‘’Oh is it? What does it taste like?’’ She asked while feeling his arms. I tuned in on what the girl next to me was talking about. ‘’Oh! It looks like you work out a lot. What gym do you go to? Or are you one of those people who jog outside?’’ She asked me but didn’t look interested in the answer. ‘’So what would you girls like to order?’’ I asked without answering any questions the girl was throwing at me. Normally I would have loved the attention as much as Ash but for some reason I could only think about ending this shift and going home. I knew that we were going back here tomorrow to so I just wanted to rest. I wonder what it is that got me sounding like an old man. or maybe who? My subconscious asked. I didn’t know what or who i was thinking about so i just pushed the thought away. ‘’I would love to taste ‘’The Red Pegasus’’ that you recommended.’’ The girl that was flirting with me said and the other girl agreed. ‘’Fine ladies. We’ll have two of those up in a few seconds.’’ Asher answered. What the hell was a ‘’Red Pegasus’’? I asked Asher the same question with my eyes and he just shrugged and gave me an ‘I don’t know.’’ look. He just made up a drink. I wonder what it would taste like. Asher was looking like a question mark, mixing a lot of different things. I don’t think he could even keep track of what he mixed in. He poured up four glasses and handed the two girls one each and then handed me one. ‘’This one’s on the house.’’ He winked at the two girls and they both giggled. They both took a few sips. ‘’Mmm’’ The one exclaimed while the other said: ‘’This is so good.’’ They made it look believable so I took my glass just to taste the drink. As soon as it was in my mouth, i spit it out. It tasted horrible. Asher started coughing because of the big gulp he just took. We started laughing our asses of. ‘’Dude, they were totally lying.’’ ‘’What the hell is a ‘Red Pegasus’?’’ Ash asked. We were still laughing. ‘’You made it up.’’ ‘’Never do that again.’’

 

An hour later we were done with our shift and on our way out Asher stopped. ‘’What is it?’’ I asked him. ‘’I think i forgot my phone in the staff room. I’ll be right back.’’ He went. ‘’Wait!’’ I yelled after him and he stopped. ‘’I’ll get the car, and meet you in the parking lot.’’ He just gave me a thumbs up before resuming his speed walk.

I drove the car to the back entrance of the club and waited for Ash to come out. I saw the door open and there he was.  He was walking towards me when a group of guys blocked my way. They were big and were holding bats.  I quickly got out of the car since i sensed trouble.

‘’You Mr. Spike?’’ I heard the one in the middle ask. There were about five of them. Asher looked confused but he didn’t look scared for some reason. I was speed walking towards him but before I was there he answered. ‘’Yeah?’’ It came out more like a question. I don’t blame him. I was confused. Before he even finished saying ‘yes’ they had smashed the bat to his head.

Lexies P.O.V

 

I was home alone. It felt good. I didn’t have to worry about anyone hearing my awful singing. Yes i do admit. I sing like a dying crow. I ordered a pizza and they told me it would take 30 minutes to deliver so I thought I would shower quickly and dress. I got out of the shower and dressed in my Dark blue flannel button up pyjama top and matching shorts with a tank top underneath since I wasn’t going to button my shirt up. (I don’t know why that information was necessary.) The doorbell rang while i was towel drying my hair. It was the Pizza.

I had eaten one bite when my phone rang. Who would call this late. It’s like 2am or something. I picked up my phone and saw an unknown number. Should I pick up? I’ll pick it up.

‘’Hello?’’ I asked. I heard someone breathing at the other end. As if they just finished an intense run.

‘’Lexie?’’ It was Zach. No I haven’t saved his number. ‘’Yeah! Are you on your way home?’’ He didn’t answer. ‘’Are you dressed? get dressed. No wait we don’t have time. put your shoes on, and your jacket. It’s a bit cold.’’ His voice sounded panicked. It scared me. He was saying everything in a rush and in a such a not Zachy way. If you get what i mean. ‘’Zach calm down, whatev-’’ I got interupted by the front door opening. I had dressed in my jacket and black uggs. It was a bit too cold to be spring. The weather here is so strange. It could be snowing one day and then the other there could be a heat wave. I blame global warming. I was wearing shorts and felt the cold wind when Zach opened the door but at the moment I didn’t care since I saw his face. He hung up and i put the phone in my pocket fast. ‘’Oh my god! Zach what happened to your face?’’ I asked as i cupped his face in my hand. There was blood dripping from above his eye and there was a black eye starting to form. He pushed my hands away and hugged me. ‘’I tried, I am sorry. They had bats. I shouldn’t have gotten out of the car i should have hit them with it. They had bats! How couldn’t I help him earlier. I am sorry Lexie. I tried I really did. They almost beat me to. They were five.’’ I would have tried to calm him down but I couldn’t help noticing that Asher wasn’t with him. Something happened to him. He was the one Zach was talking about. I couldn’t stand up anymore. He was gripping me tight and when my legs failed me he didn’t. He kept repeating himself. ‘’Take me to the hospital. Can you drive? Will you be able to drive?’’ I asked him with teary eyes. He nodded but didn’t let me go. ‘’Now Zach! Please’’ My voice faltered. He dragged me towards the car that was in the driveway. He hadn’t even shut it off.

The drive was quiet. Once we were there we got out of the car. I was about to ask the lady at the desk about my brother when Zach kept dragging me away. I just went with it because i guess he knew where Ashs waiting room was. The room was empty and Zach was still holding my hand. He sat down on a chair and instead of letting me sit down on the chair next to him, he put me down on his lap. He hugged my waist and i hugged him… kind of. I was hugging his face. He was shaking and i noticed that he was crying. It broke me. I didn’t know why I wasn’t crying. I think that right now, Zach needs me to be strong. That’s what I tell mysefl anyways. Silent tears were running down my cheeks. I wasn’t sure on how serious it was but it seemed serious. After a while he stopped crying and we were just sat there in silence until I broke the silence. ‘’Tell me what happened.’’ my voice was croaky. He took in a deep breath. ‘’There was no warning. They just attacked.’’ He grabbed my hand. ‘’I was  in my car, waiting for him….’’ He told me of how everything went and how they almost beat him up too. ‘’I have no idea how i got away with only this. The only thing I could think of was Ash. He was .. I was scared for him.’’ He gripped my hand tighter. I had started crying but he was looking down on his feet so he didn’t notice. ‘’I don’t want to lose my bestfriend. He’s like a brother to me.’’ He looked up at me and my face was probably scrunched up. as if i had eaten something really sour. I couldn’t hold in the sobs. He hugged me for atleast an hour before a doctor called Ashers name. ‘’Mr. Spike?’’
