I cleaned the counter with a old dirty rag until I saw my reflection. Best way to describe this place. The bar from Deadpool. But we have a juke box. And the light is a bit red. And brighter. My boss was whistling a tune as I cleaned some cups.
"Hey Y/n, got a sec", he asked.
"Depends. What is it?"
"That guy over there in the corner is what. He hasn't ordered nothin' since he got here. Could you go see what's up with him?"
"Yeah, sure."
I tossed my rag into a laundry basket and peered towards where the man was. He was laying his head on the table with a black hood pulled over his head.
"Can I get you somthin'," I asked.
He looked up and coughed.
"Can you get me a drink that helps with mourn?" The voice sounded young, but sad.
"Depends on what kind of mourn it is, we have 'lost my house', 'family member died, 'lost my trust', 'my girlfriend broke up with me', 'my money's gone', and 'someone close is gone'.
"Uh, can you mix drinks?"
"Yeah, what did you have in mind?"
"Could you maybe mix 'lost my trust, 'my girlfriend broke up with me', and 'someone close is gone'."
"Yikes, is it that bad", I asked as I wrote it all down.
"Yep."
"Yo, Chuck, we got a number 5 with a splash of 8!"
"Copy that!"
I turned back to the stranger.
"So..... What happened? Did someone die?"
"And I should tell you why?"
"Because its a bartender's job to. know."
"I guess there no harm in telling you a little.... It all started when a mask got stolen, and there was a royal family connected to its past. The princess Harumi was obsessed with finding all three masks-"
"Wait wait wait. Harumi? As in Princess Harumi? The one from the palace with snow white hair? Sings a lullabye tune?"
"Y-yeah, how do you know her", the stranger asked as he looked at me.
A million memories ran through my head as I started to take deep breaths. I speed walked away.
"Hey Chuck! Is that drink ready yet?"
"Just about", he yelled back.
"He-hey, wait! How do you know Harumi", the stranger asked as he grabbed my arm hard.
The moment he touch my arm, all the people in the bar pulled out their guns and pointed them at the stranger. Except for the Ninety year old. He slept with a flask in his hand. My customer with his hair slicked back with grey walked out with a hand gun in his hands.
"Look here boy, nobody wants any trouble. She's our listen lady. And nobody lays a finger on our listen lady. I suggest you get your drink and hit the hay", Danny DeVito said in his New York accent. The stranger slowly let go of me and walked towards the counter to get his drink. He pulled something out of his pocket. Everyone tensed up and took the safety trigger off.
"Relax. Just grabbing some money to pay."
He took his drink and slowly walked out of the bar.
"Thanks for having my back guys. I really appreciate it."
"Hey, anything for our listen lady," one of the bikers said.
"Hey Joe! Go make sure that creep ain't still around out there o.k", Chuck asked.
One of the bikers ,Joe, nodded and stomped out. I sighed in relief and continued my work.

~Time Skip~

It was around night time when I got back to my apartment. The lobby was empty except for the occasional bum sleeping on some of the chairs while Mrs. Bunkle was doing some paperwork behind her desk. She had white hair put up in a bun with reading glass connected to a little chain. She was like the sweet kind old lady in this building. The rest are hags. She saw me come in.
"Oh! Hello deary, I'm sorry to tell you this but... Your rent is coming up in three days and if you don't pay, I'm afraid your gonna have to leave."
"O.k Mrs.Bunkle, I'll have your money by then. See ya around."
"Goodbye deary."
I am not gonna have her money by then. The rent is about 378$ and I usually get paid 500$, but business has been slow lately. I would probably get about 280$ tops. I climbed up the rickety old stair and walked to my room. My room number was B12. And luckly, it was by a fire escape next to my bedroom window. My room had a living room that was small due to it being connected to the kitchen. And a bathroom with only a shower, sink, and toilet. My room was across from the living room. There wasn't even a door. I unlocked my door only to be tackled by a blur of orange and red.
"Todd, quit it hah, stop that tickles!"
Yep, I owned a little pup fox that I named 'Todd' after a movie. He was really just a fuzz ball. I found him one day on the streets in a garbage can. He's very helpful. He helps me steal money from pockets and gets food from the 5 star restaurants. He is actually very smart for a fox.
I carried him up walked into the living room while closing the door. My room always smelt a bit burnt. I put Todd down and grabbed some Kibbles and poured it into Todd's bowl. He gladly munched on it as I walked to my room. I dropped my bag on my bed and opened the window. It obeyed with a loud creak. I jumped on the fire escape and climbed up to the roof. The view up here is amazing. I think this was the thing I missed most when I was gone. I smiled as I stared at the beautiful lights in the city. Gone because of Harumi. My smile disappeared as I replayed what happened earlier. He knew her. But how? I don't remember seeing him at the palace. I wonder how the Emperor and Empress are doing. They were awfully nice when I was there. I miss them. The only ones I don't miss is Harumi and Clouse. He was in on it. I felt something run against my leg and looked down.
It was Todd looking at me with his big round eyes. How he got up here was beyond me. I sighed and layed down. Todd sat on my stomache and put his head between his paws. I petted his fluffy head as I slowly drifted off to sleep. There was only one thought in my mind. Who was the stranger?
