Chapter 27

The back of my neck aches slightly and both my legs have cramped up.

It takes me a few moments to come around and adjust to my surroundings.

My legs are sprawled across Ashton and he holds onto my ankles loosely.

Ash's mouth hangs open and his head is tilted back. Asleep.

His breath is even and steady, and I find myself staring at him.

The way his eye lids flutter ever so gently and the peaceful look spread across his face, comfort me in the strangest way possible.

I try to take back my legs from Ashton's clutch slowly.

Small groans and grumbles tumble from his pink lips and his eyes open slowly.

His stare lands on me and he lets go of my ankles.

"Sorry, Cart," he mumbles rubbing his eyes.

"It's fine," I laugh slightly as I lean my head onto his shoulder.

"Do you want something? Something to eat? Drink?" He offers.

"Could I get some, like, water?" I ask, before clearing my throat.

"Yeah," he smiles.

Ashton calls over the air hostess and pays for a bottle of water.

"Thanks, ash," I smile, taking a swig.

"Do you know how long we have left of the flight?" He asks.

I shrug before resting my head on the plane's window.

I can't wait till we get there, and I can lay down and-

My heart suddenly stops.

"Wait where are we gonna stay?" I turn to Ashton.

"Oh," he says slowly. "We're gonna have to book like a hotel room."

"But how, we don't have american money,"

"I think there's places in the airport where we can book hotels and stuff," he shrugs.

"Oh right," I furrow my eyebrows.

"Don't worry," Ashton smiles as he leans over and buries his face into my neck. His voice husk. "We'll figure it out."

I nod a little, as I tangle my fingers with his. "Yeah."

We sit together it silence for a few moments. Ashton's curls tickling the side of my face and neck.

A voice sounds over the speakers, telling us that we would be beginning our decent.

Ashton and I begin to put our seat belts on and the plane starts to dip.

My stomach flips and my toes curl up.

Ashton laughs. He holds onto my hand gently, smiling at me.

I tear my eyes from his and look out of the window. Darkness is spread over the city and I can see the outline of New York, that infamous city back drop. Cascaded into the early morning darkness. The light of the city shine bright on the horizon. The glow of Manhattan simmers away as the planes wheels hit the runway. We landed, safely.

I turn back to Ashton, who's face holds a huge grin.

"I guess you owe me that date," he smirks.

"I guess I do," I smile back.

We are silent as we wait for the other passengers to leave.

"So?" I say creasing my forehead.

"What?" He laughs gently.

"Ask me!" I smile hitting his arm.

"Ohhh, miss Carter Hight would you do me the honour of accompanying me tomorrow at the nearest restaurant or coffee shop,"

"Hmm I dont know I think I have plans tomorrow," I smirk at him.

"Is that so?" He smiles back. "But seriously what would you like to do?"

"I don't care," i look up at him "As long as it's with you, it doesn't matter."

He stares down at me, biting his lip.

"C'mon lets get out of here," he holds onto my hand as we snake between the plane seats and out of the door.

My legs are slightly wobbly after having been sat down for 9 hours. But, I feel like I could run a marathon. Because I'm here, in New York.

This is the same place that I dreamed of when I sat alone in my bedroom. This is the place that was supposed to make my dreams come true.

Yeah, I know, cliche choice. New York, everyone goes to New York. But I don't care if you think it's stereotypical, someone trying to find their way in New York. I really couldn't give any less fucks. Because this is the place, right here.

And I'm here with Ashton, someone who I've not known for very long, but someone who makes me feel secure, and someone who pretty much flipped my life around.

"Shall I get the bags?" Ashton asks, his eyes darting around the airport.

"Uh yeah, do you want me to do anything?"

"Yeah, be a doll and get me a cup of coffee," he kisses my hand before turning away.

I walk into the nearest coffee shop and begin to order.

"Hey do you know where I can change my money into dollars?" I ask the woman.

"Yeah there's a machine near the exit, are you gonna pay with pounds or?"

"Yeah if you don't mind." I smile.

"It's all the same to me," she mutters as she makes two lattes. "Here you go."

"Thanks." I pay, then leave.

Both boiling hot coffees are in my clutch as I start to walk towards baggage claim.

I spot Ashton waiting by the all the luggage, for ours to come along.

"Hey, here's your coffee," I smile.

"Thanks," he smiles back kissing my temple.

"The lady in the shop told me that we could change our money in a machine,"

"Really? Ah that's great!" His arm warps around my waist and we wait together.

Soon enough both our bags come.

"Let's book a hotel, yeah?" Ashton says.

We walk together towards a small counter where two men sit.

Ashton books us a hotel, close to the centre of the city.

"Should we get a taxi?" I ask.

"Yeah let's just change our money and we can get the fuck out of here."

I nod as Ashton feeds his money into the machine. It spits out dollars and he collects them.

"Ready?" He asks for like the billionth time.

"Ready," I breathe as we step out into the crisp morning.

New York.
