Chapter 2: Secrets

Hanji's POV

"You've changed." Erwin says to me after dinner as he drove. Eren was dozing off in his car seat- full of food. "Did seeing Levi really change all of that?"

"Hm?" His words shook me off of that weird feeling and I paid more attention to him. "Sorry, dozed off for a bit. Repeat that for me, please?"

He chuckles as his hand slowly takes my hand. "There you go again. You're getting distracted. You were never that distracted before. Something's on your mind?" Of course, there was something on my mind. That kiss I gave to him... I almost wanted to regret it, but I didn't. It felt... right. Unlike the time with Erwin, his kisses felt lustful. He was power-hungry. "Hanji..."

"You're overreacting." I chuckled softly, pecking a soft kiss on his cheek. "Nothing's wrong with me."

"You sure, Hanji? You've just been... down. Now you're very distracted."

I nodded my head and forced a small smile through. "I'm fine, Erwin."

But everything was not fine. Once we arrived home, Erwin was especially clingy to me. I bathed Eren and tucked him to sleep before I showered. Erwin was already in bed and falling asleep as soon as I got to him. He wrapped his arms around me... and for some reason, seeing Levi again brought memories up. 

I compared Levi's warmth hugs to Erwin's lustful ones. They were so different. Levi engulfed me with so much love that I... well, I actually loved him back. Erwin was more of in-the-moment kind of thing. That's how Eren was born... a spur of the moment. One night and soon, I was granted with a baby in my womb. 

I was... overwhelmed by the idea of being a mother- but it worked out. Having Eren was just the greatest feeling. But it also activated some other feeling in me- more... maternal. I wanted more kids, but when I proposed that idea to Erwin, he pushed it aside. Levi was the opposite. He cared for Eren when Erwin and I couldn't do so. He was more of the father-like figure I wished I had for Eren.

I knew I made the wrong choice, but it was right. I had no funds, I had nothing... and Erwin was everything I needed- but Levi was everything I wanted. I stopped myself from shivering as his arms wrapped around me for the night. Darkness took over me as I saw Levi once more. Levi...

"Starting tomorrow?" I chuckled softly when Levi was talking about what was going on. He accepted Erwin's proposal. "I'll be damned... surprised you're working for him now. Something changed?"

He stayed silent before sighing heavily. "Well... I'm running low on money... it's the best thing. Besides, I get to see Eren again."

"He's usually in the daycare center... but you can have full permission to go on ahead and visit him whenever you can. He would love to have you around- he's going in it tomorrow, so, surprise him."

"Maybe I will."

I chuckled nervously, looking around for Erwin. "So... you got an office there? Nice... private... just the way you like it?"

"Surprisingly, he still knows me. That's always a surprise. Usually, he doesn't know me at all. Hanji, did you have something to do with that?"

"Maybe..."

"Hanji..." His voice was on the edge of being playful- and it was one of the cutest thing ever. That first time I heard him being playful... that was when I forced him to participate in my experiments back in college. He teased me when I told him I wouldn't play with chemicals too much... teased me and told me that I was a dangerous chemical. "You did it, didn't you."

"Either that or being put in a cubical with a bunch of annoying people. Want that? Being surrounded by people and stuff like that." He sighs behind the phone, and I chuckled. "Be thankful, Levi."

He grunts a bit before muttering those words. "Thanks." He stayed silent for a bit before bring up that one incident. "Hanji, what was that kiss?"

"Last night...?"

"What other kiss was there? Those kisses in the past were before Erwin. The kiss that was recent, so yes, last night. What was that about?"

Once more, I looked around for Erwin- seeing him out of sight. "Levi, I can't explain that right now. I'll explain it tomorrow."

"Hanji..."

"What? What is it?"

"Was it real...? Was that kiss real...? Is something going on?" Levi was going to rant on more and more if I didn't stop him. "Hanji-"

"I'll explain it later!" My voice rose and I feared Erwin would hear me. I sighed softly, calming myself before speaking to him again. "I mean it, tomorrow... I'll explain it. Just... see you then. Bye Levi... and... I... I miss you..." Then I hung up on him. 

"Hanji?!" Erwin runs up to me as he was out of breath. "Hanji... what happened?"

I shrugged my shoulders and faked a smile. "Oh nothing, it's alright. No need to worry... I promise."

"You sure?"

"I'm sure. Eren's alright?"

Levi's POV

I sighed heavily, staring at the phone as I heard her last words. How she... missed me. Missed me? Please... I wish I can just get answers right now. Everything's gotta be tomorrow. Me starting work under Erwin and the truth that Hanji is hiding. Sighs. She misses me... in what way? I wonder... does she miss our relationship? Tomorrow. Everything gets revealed. If she misses me... I'll tell her the truth. The truth I've been hiding for the longest time. That I still love her... and still had that ring...
