Eddie knew exactly where Richie went. He knew he always went there to smoke or just to relax, but mainly to smoke.
Eddie walked out of the Toziers's house and began the walk toward the kissing bridge. He was always jealous of those couples who went there to carve their initials into the fence. Of course he would have no one to do it with, and the only one who he would ever want to do it with, would have a zero percent chance to ever do that. No one would ever date the young asthmatic boy.
Richie's house was close to the bridge luckily, so Eddie didn't have to waste his strength trying to cross the whole town.
On the way there the same sentence kept running through his head, "The world isn't going to accept people like me."
When Eddie finally got there he saw Richie on the other side of the fence sitting down with his hands on his elbows.
"Richie?" Eddie called out, grabbing the taller boy's attention.
Richie turned his head around seeing the smaller boy over the fence.
"Eddie what are you doing here?" Richie said standing up.
Eddie could tell Richie had been crying. His eyes were red and puffy, and his glasses we're in his hand. His pants were dirty from him sitting in the dirt, and his hair was all messy, like someone just ran their fingers through it. Richie quickly wiped his eyes and put his glasses back on.
"I came looking for you, are you ok?" Eddie said walking closer to Richie.
"Fucking hell Eddie! Stop asking me if I'm okay every goddamn second!" Richie exclaimed.
Richie hopped over the fence so now he was standing in front of Eddie.
"I'm never okay, if you want an answer. I'm a fucking disappointment to everyone. Everyone tells me to shut up and they never really listen!" Richie yelled, making a jogger look over at us, only to start running.
"What the.. what the hell are you talking about Richie? Eddie stammered.
Eddie was nervous. Usually Richie was all shits and giggles, he was never this serious. Unless this was one big fucking prank on Eddie. If this was, Eddie would be so pissed. He cared about Richie, he really did. More than normal. He would never want to admit that out loud, of course. Or even to himself. He was scared of feelings, especially when they were for a boy. He was unsure though. Unsure of his feelings, and what they meant. If they meant anything.
They stared at each other for a moment, before anyone said anything.
Richie could make out all of Eddie features on his face. The few freckles he had on his cheeks and nose, his dark brown eyes - so dark that they were almost black. Eddie's chocolate brown hair that had they slight wavy ness to it. All of his features he fell in love with over the years. Only in his dreams has he ever thought about kissing his lips.
Richie never replied to Eddie's question. Eddie just started back at Richie.
"Aren't you gonna answer me?" Eddie said, his voice filled with annoyance.
"I.. I'm gay, Eddie. That's what i was going to tell you. That's what I've been wanting to for the past year. You'll probably think I'm a freak." He finally said, not bearing to look at Eddie.
Eddie was stunned, to say the least. Never in a thousand years would he ever think that Richie would be gay. He just stared at him, dumbfounded.
There were no words needed. Eddie took matter into his own hands. He leaned in and kissed Richie. The kiss was soft, the feeling of Richie's chapped lips against his own. Richie only started to realize that Eddie was kissing him until it was over. Both boys' cheeks were red, their breathing uneven.
"That was... nice." Richie began, finally looking up at Eddie for the first time.
They both smiled at each other.
"If your a freak, then I'm a freak too." Eddie said blushing a little bit.
Richie laughed and put an arm around Eddie.
"Come on, let's get you home before your mom freaks out." Said Richie as they began walking back to Eddie's house.
That might have not been the way Richie imagined it to be, but at least Eddie didn't see the carving of R+E on the fence directly in front of him. That would have been hard to explain.
