꧁༺ GOOD LUCK BABE! ༻꧂

Demitra had her hair cut by Maria who removed a good chunk of it. Demitra had never had her hair cut, so it was long. very long, and thinner at the ends. now, it was down the middle of her back rather than at her hips. the curls looked much better, and she couldn't help but admire them as she sat, not paying attention to the movie in front of her.

after a while, Ellie kicked her with her foot. "look." Demitra followed Ellie's gaze and found Tommy moving through the crowd. something was off about him. "come on."

"Ellie, no!" Demitra hissed, but she was too late as Ellie had already stood and began walking through the crowds of people. "shit!" Demitra stood, muttering apologies to other kids as she rushed through them. "Ellie!" she shouted, once outside.

"sshh!" Ellie hissed angrily, slapping her hand over Demitra's mouth. "just shut up, and follow me."

Demitra rolled her eyes but did as told, following Ellie into the snow and in the direction Tommy had walked off to. they ended up in front of a repair store, and through the cracked door, they heard Joel and Tommy talking quietly.

Joel's voice was watery. "i have to leave them. i mean, it's why you took off on me right? to make up for the things we did? well, here's your chance to bring your kid into a better world. you're younger than me, you're still strong. you said it yourself, you'll come back. you have to take her."

Demitra backed away from the door and cleared her throat. "i need to go."

"Demi-," Ellie whispered, walking after her.

"no, i'm sorry. i just, i need to be alone right now." Demitra brushed her hand off her arm but Ellie chased her again. "what? Ellie, i don't know what to do anymore."

"just, come back to my house. okay?" Ellie gripped her hand tightly, "you shouldn't be alone right now. neither of us should." Ellie understood how she felt, and she felt it too. for her, it would be better to stick together, not to go their separate ways.

"i don't know." Demitra mumbled, not really there. she was stuck in her own head as she stared at the snowy ground.

"just come with me, and if you wanna go home you can."

Demitra stared at the snow, her brows furrowed, her face contorted, until finally, she nodded. "fine."

Demitra and Ellie sat in her room quietly. the only light came from a little pink lamp by her bedside. the walls were pink and green, already decorated by the girl who lived there years before. pictures of her friends and family littered a poster board above a desk pushed on the farthest wall from the door.

Ellie sat on the window seat, reading through the young girls diary whilst Demitra sat on the edge of the bed, fiddling with a stuffed toy of a dog.

she picked at the fur on the dogs ears as the bedroom door opened, revealing Joel. "Ellie?" he called, not expecting Demitra to be there too. "Demitra." he stated when he saw her, and she refused to acknowledge his presence.

"is this really all they had to worry about?" Ellie asked, flicking the page of the diary to the next one. "boys, movies, deciding which shirt goes with which skirt. it's bizarre."

"listen, uhm-,"

"why're you here?" Ellie asked suddenly. her tone was growing increasingly aggressive as she lifted her eyes off the page to glare at him. Demitra breathed out quietly as she placed the dog toy aside.
