꧁༺ GOOD LUCK BABE! ༻꧂

"wake up!"

Demitra shot up with a small shout, her hand reaching towards whatever had been shaking her. it collided with a hard but also squishy surface and elicited a pained shout in return. her eyes soon adjusted to the light and that was when she realised what she had hit. or rather, who.

"ow!" Ellie's tone was shrill and her feelings turned sour as she clutched her aching nose. "why'd you do that?"

"i'm sorry." Demitra winced, rolling her body closer and out of her sleeping bag. she reached out and took Ellie's hand off her nose, examining the slowly reddening skin with a small wince. "shit dude. i'm sorry, you just scared me. are you okay?" her heart remained hammering in her chest from her terrifying dream, and she swallowed thickly in attempts to push it away.

"i think it's broken." Ellie whined dramatically, falling from her crouched position and onto her butt. the air was cold despite the little hunting shed they found to reside in. Joel was outside keeping watch like always, likely freezing his ass off but he wasn't one to complain.

something Demitra had grown accustomed to over the course of the past three months. Joel's stoniness, the way he carried himself like a robot, his droning tone as he barely entertained Ellie's antics.

he was a dry person when it came to humour and he didn't really care about anything but their physical comfort and safety, so in hindsight that was a plus. but she liked him, because despite how cold he came off as, he was actually really warm. he cared, even if he didn't say it, and he'd risk it all to keep both of them safe.

at first, admittedly, she felt like a chore, a responsibility he didn't want. but now she felt like family, or a close friend, he treated her just like he did with Ellie. there was no favouritism at all.

"it's not broken." Demitra rolled her eyes, taking her hand off of Ellie's face. Ellie found herself feeling colder without Demitra' touch on her cheek, but she pushed it down and shuffled a little closer instead as the girl stood up. Ellie watched her from the ground as she stretched, even going as far as the eye the sliver of skin she saw on her stomach as he arm lifted above her head.

feeling like a Victorian man seeing ankles for the first time, she cleared her throat and looked away.

pathetic, stupid, silly little lesbian, she scolded herself. you are no better than a man.

"how would you know? you a doctor?" Ellie taunted, picking up the girl's flashlight she had fallen asleep besides. that night, whilst Joel was outside in the quiet snow, they laid on their backs giggling about the shadow puppet's on the wall.

only stopping when Joel hit the side of the shed and shouted at them to shut up and go to sleep.

"yeah, i am actually. you're not suffering from a broken nose, just an acute form of being a little bitch, now shut up."

Ellie's jaw dropped at the disrespect, "you know what?"

"what?" Demitra scoffed playfully, stuffing her sleeping bag into her large backpack.

"i'm stealing you're batteries." Ellie remarked, angrily twisting the back off her torch. "you don't deserve them, they've been confiscated. have fun stumbling in the dark ugly."

"ugly?!" Demitra suddenly shrieked.

Ellie bristled in terror at the girls tone, and fumbled for a reply, "no! never, i'm joking! it was a bad joke, bad bad joke, i'm sorry. you're not ugly-you're just fucking with me aren't you?" Demitra's cheeky grin was all Ellie needed for an answer and she grumbled, rolling her eyes. "fuck you, shit-stain. i'm keeping these goddamn batteries, i hope you fall over and never recover."
