so uhm a lot of the ocs for the Harry Potter fandom tend to be all of the same one archetype and you know what, let's add some diversity to it okay? okay.
WHAT IS AN ARCHETYPE? An archetype is a model or pattern that a character fits into, there are many archetypes but here are the normal groupings; The Innocent The Orphan/Regular Guy or Gal The Hero The Caregiver The Explorer The Rebel The Lover The Creator The Jester The Sage The Magician The Ruler
WHAT ARE THE COMMONLY SEEN ARCHETYPES IN HP FICS? In many HP fics you will find that the OC fits into one of two archetypes (typically) The Hero and The Ruler. The Ruler is where power is what they want and crave, it's what they want for a family and etc, you see this a lot with Slytherin OCs. The Hero is where they want to prove ones self through courageous acts (aka Gryffindor).
WHAT DO THE ARCHETYPES WANT? The Innocent — they want and strive for peace and paradise The Orphan/Regular Guy or Gal — they want to connect with other people The Hero — to show one's self through courageous acts The Caregiver — they want to protect and care for others The Explorer — they want the freedom to find themselves through exploring the world The Rebel — they want to have rebellion or revolution The Lover — they want intimacy and relationships with people The Creator — they want to create things of great value The Jester — they want to live in the moment with full enjoyment The Sage — they want to use intelligence to change the world The Magician — they want to understand the universe The Ruler — they desire to have many forms of power
so in my final statements, you can have your character fit into at most three archetypes and just try to have them as different as you can get them, that's what makes an OC interesting.
