Chapter 13 : Day 18 - Interrogations

Rati walks out of her room stepping downstairs. She hears loud yelling voices coming from the room which is beside Rudra's room called 'the stable room.' She stops one of the maid going towards kitchen enquiring, "What's happening?"

The maid replies, "I am not sure, Hukum, Joshiji, Rudra and Dadisa all went in. They have not stepped out since seven in morning"

Rati brows furrows asking, "What!!!!! But why?"

Maid stammers, "I .. I... don't know. But Rajkumari Rati I am hearing this voices for the first time since my five years here. We all were very scared when Joshiji warned us this morning to ignore any sounds coming from the door and also asked to not eavesdrop."

Rati clearing her throat speaks, "You may go now. Wait! Where is Sati?"

Maid answers, "She has not stepped out from her room."

Rati lifts her left hand checking her wrist watch sternly saying, "It's almost ten! Go wake her up."

Maid bows then walks heading towards the stairs, she stops seeing Sati walking down in a simple yellow coloured blouse matched with her yellow ghagra and yellow duppatta neatly pinned. Rati turns to the maid who stood beside her, matching at the direction of her eyes to see Sati face to face.

Sati orders maid, "You leave" turning towards Rati, "Jiji let's go."

She holds Rati's palms in her palms walking towards the stable room approaching the voices coming from. Rati in a worried tone, "Sati, are you scared?"

Sati's grips tightens Rati's hands saying, "I am not scared Jiji. Let's head inside."

They reach the door. Sati knocks the door and the next moment Rudra opens. They both head inside while Rudra closing the door behind. Rati and Sati's eyes gazes to the man lying on the floor with his legs and hands tied with rope. His wrists and ankles are red due to ropes being tightened.

Rati stands behind Dadisa who's sitting on a black wooden chair along with Kanwar Singh. Joshi hovers at the head of the man on the floor. Rudra walks standing beside Joshi. Sati walks past Dadisa to stand near the torso of the man.

The man looks in the eyes of Sati and Sati doing the same. Joshi barks, "Keep your eyes down...."

Sati lifts her head to Joshi cutting coldly, "It's okay, I don't mind it."

Rati and Joshi are startled. Joshi bows taking a step back while Sati squats down gazing in his eyes questions, "Do you want to kill me?"

The man nods his face sideways to deny. Kanwar Singh's, Dadisa's, Joshi's and Rudra's eyes widen with tilting their heads at same time when he nods. Kanwar Singh surprisingly roars, "How come he's answering now?" looking at Rudra and Joshi.

Rati intervenes, "What do you mean answering now Jeesa?"

Dadisa speaks, "He wouldn't budge a bit for questions we asked inspite of all the torture."

Sati scowls at Joshi and Rudra after words left Dadisa's mouth. Sati fiercely looking forward to Joshi and Rudra, "Didn't I say not to touch him? Why.did.you.touch.him?"

Rati's eyes widen looking at the fierce Sati's face and the way she spoke around everyone. Joshi and Rudra lower their heads looking at their feet. Sati pulls the man from his shoulders making him  in sitting position facing her then questioning him, "Are you a theif?"

The man nods his face sideways for no.

"Are you a spy?" She continues
