Chapter 4: L is for Lose your Mind

The mysterious L. No one knew his identity, what he looked like, who he was. he was a world renowned detective, cracked every case he was ever handed. Had every criminal locked behind bars, and now he was hunting down my brother. I hate to say it, but I had to admire the guy. I had always loved detective work. Agatha Christie was my favorite author, and I was currently reading her murder mystery And Then There Were None for the 50th time, when Light burst into my room. "(y/n), you gotta come with me." He said, a conflicting expression of excitement and fear on his face. I slapped the book shut and followed him into his room. 

I saw the TV on, and someone named Lind L Tailor on the screen. He was already talking when i walked in, but all i heard was, "I am Lind L Tailor, otherwise known as L." Light and I gasped. Surely the world's greatest detective wouldn't be idiotic enough to reveal his identity on international television. This must be a hoax. I became engulfed in my thoughts, blocking out everything else around me until I heard Light yelling "I WILL BE THE GOD OF A NEW WORLD THAT EVERYONE DESIRES! ALL THOSE WHO OPPOSE THAT GOD, THOSE ARE THE ONES WHO ARE TRULY EVIL!" He grabbed the Death Note as a pleaded, "Light no." I jumped towards him, trying to get the book from his grasp. He shoved me onto the floor, my head hitting the cold hard wood. "This could have been better if only you would have been a bit smarter." he said, writing L's name in the book of death. I groaned, trying to stand as my head spun. Ryuk grabbed me from behind, his long bony arms hooked under my armpits and he flopped me on the bed before returning to Light's side, a pitying expression flashing across his face as he looked at me. I couldn't totally hear what Light was saying, my head still spinning from the fall, when i saw the man on TV collapse. "No..." I whispered as Light laughed maniacally, when all of a sudden the screen displayed a large L in a fancy font.  An edited voice began to talk, and I listened as best i could. The real L was alive! The man pretending to be him was a criminal on death row with the name Lind L Tailor who pretended to be L. I have to say, I'm impressed. He tricked my brother, a genius, a master of life and death. He managed to get his general location too by only broadcasting in certain parts of Japan. Wow. He was really good. I stood up and walked behind my brother, a small stream of blood coming from a cut on my head. "You should have listened to me. I told you not to kill him Light." I said, tears in my eyes, it finally sinking it that he had hurt me and killed a man in the span of 30 seconds. Lights turned around, a fiery rage in his eyes until he looked at me. His favorite sister, his precious (y/n) Yagami. "Oh (y/n) I am so so so sorry I did not mean to hurt you at all." he said pulling me into a hug. "I just don't like seeing you this way. And you should know that L is smarter than to reveal himself on TV, Light. Think before you act." I said while leaving to clean my cut. 

I walked into my bathroom and shut the door, more tears leaking from my face. I was terrified for my brother. I could already see the power controlling him, the way he flipped so quickly was scary. He was losing his mind, and I wanted to help him, but didn't know how. I wiped my tears and cleaned my small cut before putting a band aid on it. "I need to get out of the house." I said to myself. I went to room and rooted through my closet, finally deciding on an outfit. I got dressed and applied some makeup, trying my best to cover the band aid on my forehead. 

I walked past Light's room and knocked on the door frame, letting him know I was there. "I'm going out. Need anything?" I asked semi coldly. He clearly wanted to come with me, but knew I needed some space. he smiled warily and said "No thank you. Have fun and be safe." I gave him a weak smile back and walked downstairs. I entered the living room and saw my sister sitting down watching Sakura TV and I giggled. I continued to the kitchen where my mom asked if i could bring my dad some food to the station, because he was going to have a late night with the Kira case. I smiled, agreeing to do it and kissed her on the cheek. 

I walked towards the station and walked through the doors. "I'm here to see my dad." I said to the lady at the front desk. "Of course (y/n)! Go right through." She said, smiling warmly. I hung around the station a lot. I love crime and detective work. I walked in and saw the entire police station surrounding something. I wiggled though the crowd, saying that I wanted to see my dad, but I really wanted to know what was going on. My stomach flipped when i saw the same L logo on a computer that I had seen not too long ago. "L..." I whispered to myself as i stood next to my father. "Who is the girl." A computerized voice asked as I made myself visible. My dad jumped, not noticing I wiggled in to give him dinner. "L, this is my daughter. She-" 

"I'm a big fan of your work L" I said suddenly, cutting my father off. "I am very into detective work myself." I squeaked, much more timidly this time as my dad gave me a cold side eye. "Hmm. Looking at her academic record she seems to be incredibly intelligent and creative." She screen observed, and my face contorted into an expression of shock as he was able to acess my records to quickly. I awaited his next sentence anxiously, and was speechless when he finally said, "Chief Yagami, I would like your daughter to help with this case."
