Billi's Pov

"You're What?!"

Shay looked at me wide eyed and put her hands over her ears for a second before replying with, "Jeez, Billi. There's no need to yell. It's not that serious."

It was my turn to look at her like she lost her marbles. Not that serious? Was she kidding?

"Shay, you're dating Beckham Wells! How is this not a big deal?"

After I got home from my long bus ride from Houston yesterday, Shay invited me to have a coffee with her today at Ally's Cafe, our go to hang out spot. Within 5 minutes of being here and after placing our order, Shay dropped a bomb on me: she was dating one of the most popular guys in our school, Beckham Wells.

5'2", antisocial, curly-haired, unsporty, little Shay Winters is dating popular, athletic, attractive, ladies-man Beckham Wells!

And she had the audacity  to pretend that this wasn't a big deal.

Shay's eyes danced with amusement as she smiled and said, "Why are you more worked up about this than I am?"

I rolled my eyes and disregarded her words before replying, "Are you sure we're talking about the same Beckham Wells?"

Maybe she met some other guy who weirdly has a last name for a first name.

"Yes, Billi, we're talking about the same Beckham," Shay affirmed.

"Tall Beckham with the weird right dimple he has when he smiles?"

Shay put her chin in her hand and smiled before saying, "Yes."

"Black haired, deep blue eyed Beckham?"

Shay opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, our waitress put our drinks in front of us. After we both thanked her and she walked off, Shay stuck her straw into her carmel frappe and took a sip as she said, "Mmh."

I blew on my coffee before asking, "Ripped football player Beckham Wells?"

"He plays basketball and baseball too, but yes," Shay said with a laugh, "Wait, how do you know he's ripped?"

"I have my sources," I said before continuing, "so we're talking about same Beckham that every girl-"

"Billi, is it really that hard to believe that I'm dating Beckham," Shay interrupted.

I looked at my best friend, thinking over her question. She looked back at me, her dark brown eyes full of question.

Her and Beckham are completely different. He's the the most popular guy in our grade, not to mention the whole school. He plays sports, is obsessed over by almost every girl in town, and on top of that he went to prom last year with bombshell senior, Kylie McKenzie. He was a freshman. A freshman. And she asked him to go with her!

Shay is almost the complete opposite of him.

She isn't unpopular or one of those weird kids by any means, she knows everyone and everyone knows her, but she just isn't friends with a lot of people. She never goes to parties, she rarely ever hangs out with people who aren't in our main circle of friends, she plays junior varsity in one sport, and she never really attempts to be social or talk to anyone new.

It was a weird match to say the least.

"Yes, it is hard to believe," I answered truthfully, "but it's just because you guys are kind of opposites of each other. I mean, I can't really even imagine how you guys even started dating, let alone talking."
