Chapter 16

Two months had passed since I left the Volturi and joined the army of nomads. I considered myself not to be a servant of my recruiter, Craig, but a co-leader instead since he was well aware of what I was capable of.

"I told you to get me a glass of bitter wine, not the sweet one!" I threw the glass of wine to the wall an inch away from where Kiara stood. The nomad looked terrified like all the other nomads were. Kiara looked like a bad-ass with her blonde pixie-cut hair and red glowing eyes...but in front of me? She was just a weakling.

She was nothing.

"I'm so—"

"Go get me another one and if you get this one wrong again, I'll make you snap your neck without breaking a sweat,"

"You're too hard on them," a familiar voice joined the conversation. I turned around to see Craig who was holding a bottle of wine. He grabbed a wine glass from the counter and nudged for Kiara to leave the two of us alone. He poured wine on the glass and handed it to me. "If you continue to treat them like that, they will have a hard time trusting you,"

"I don't need their trust," I rolled my eyes. "The only one that is worth befriending here is you, and it's not because I want to be friends. It's because you're beneficial for me to win against the Volturi,"

Craig shook his head. "Not just me, Blyte. You need my people, your people. You need an army to defeat the Volturi,"

"Whatever,"

"Are you ready?"

"For what?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"You know what I mean," Craig sighed. "In less than three hours, we are going to face them. We are going to face the Volturi,"

"Then what are you doing here?" I took a sip of my wine. "Aren't you supposed to be training or preparing for war?"

"It's a surprise coming from you since you're here enjoying a glass of wine," Craig laughed. We decided to attack in the afternoon so I would be able to use my full strength for twelve hours. It was a good plan since the war could last longer because we were supernatural creatures. "Aren't you nervous?"

"What can I say?" I shrugged. "My power is limitless for twelve hours. I just need to stand in the back line to kill each and every one who stands in my way."

"Kiara, do you want me to chop your legs off? You're a freaking vampire, you can walk faster than that!" I yelled at the blonde."

"I—I'm sorry!" she yelled and attempted to run before I grabbed her by the arm.

"I. Said. Walk. Faster," I said through gritted teeth. I had no idea why the littlest of things started to irritate me. Maybe it was because of the war that was going to unfold. "Do you not know what walk faster mean? I said walk faster, not run,"

"Kiara, walk in the back," Craig ordered and Kiara immediately followed.

"She's lucky if I won't kill her before the war starts," I commented. "Don't you have cars to make this trip faster?"

"We're just nomads, Blyte," Craig answered in a matter-of-fact tone. "Unlike the Volturi, we don't have an empire or the luxury,"

"Don't worry. That will change once we defeat them,"

*Flashback*

The song started playing and Alec placed both of my hands on his shoulders whilst his hands rested on both sides of my waist. I rolled my eyes as he did that. I didn't really want to be part of this party program after all.

"You should look into my eyes as we dance," Alec spoke.

"Please," I chuckled. "I don't really want to do anything with you so don't except me to look at you when your sight disgusts me so much."

*End of Flashback*

"Blyte...you've spaced out," Craig's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. "Were you thinking of him?"

Of course, it would be useless to lie to Craig since his power was to read emotions and know who they were directed to. "Yeah," I nodded. "I'm thinking of the bliss once I've killed Alec,"

Our army had arrived in front of the Volturi castle located in Volterra. The streets of Volterra was clear and no one was outside. Much to my dismay, it appeared like the Volturi was aware that we were going to attack as their own army stood there with Felix, Demetri, Jane...and Alec standing in the front line.
