Thomas' POV
Thomas got out of the shower, water drops rolling down his back. He had had a stressful day at school. They were having a lot of tests and those cost Thomas a lot of stress. (Kinda a childhood trauma thing).
He walked past James' room and heard him singing. James had taken drama as his major and they were going to perform Dear Evan Hansen as their next play. James had told Thomas how much he wanted to play Evan. James was practicing his audition for the play.
"If I could tell her..Tell her everything I see~ If I could tell her, how she's everything to me~"
Thomas listened to James' beautiful and calm voice, smiling. He wasn't the best at singing, but he was master of playing guitar.
He knew the chords to the song, so he could just get his guitar and play James some background music. Sadly James noticed him before he could get the guitar.
"T-Thomas? Did you hear me sing?" James asked, blushing from embarrassment. "Of course I did. And I really liked it." Thomas said, leaning on the door frame. "They really need to pick you for the part." James shook his head. "No..A lot of the people in the class are better than me.." Thomas fixed his towel. "No they aren't. You're the best." "Thomas, that's really kind of you but I'm just not enough." James looked away. "Why not?" Thomas asked, rubbing James' shoulder.
"I really want to be apart of the musical, but I'm kinda afraid to perform..and I don't fill ANY of the requirements! Evan should be a kinda tall, skinny and white blond boy, while I'm short, chubby black kid..maybe I shouldn't even audition.."
"You've been wanting to play a part in a musical for such a long time and this is your chance! So please, don't throw away your shot!"
James nodded a little. "Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try.." Thomas smiled. "Great! So when's the audition?" "In three days."
"Alright then." Thomas went to put his pajamas on.~Time skip of three days~
Thomas and James were walking to the auditorium together. James seemed really nerves. "Jamie, it's gonna just a little song. It's not so bad." Thomas gave James a encouraging smile. "Yeah, but the song is a big deal." James frowned. "But I'm sure you'll do great."
They entered the auditorium. The stage was full if theater kids talking to each other. James gulped. Thomas rubbed his back. "They're not gonna watch you." James shrugged, nervesly looking around.
A tall and slim boy was following them with his gaze, while a short, more chubbier girl flicked his neck. "Stop it, Charles. He hasn't done anything to you." Charles smirked. "I just wanna see him fail, Pegs." Peggy rolled her eyes. "I told you to not call me that."
Thomas glared at Lee. *Get a life..* He led James to the stage. "Good luck." He smiled. James smiled and pecked Thomas' cheek. "That'll be needed."
Thomas went to sit down. He pulled out his phone and listened to Charles and Peggy bicker. It was honestly funny to listen to them. Charles was desperately trying to get Peggy to be his girlfriend, and Peggy wasn't having any of that.
"Charles, stop being so needy!" Thomas yelled, half joking. Charles snarled at him. "What rights do you have to be here right now? You're not in theater and this is our auditions." Thomas shrugged. "I'm just here to see how well James will do." Charles chuckled and came over to Thomas. "He's always too anxious to sing or perform. So there's basically nothing to see." Peggy pulled him away by his shirt. "Don't you get cocky yet. He might actually do it this time." "Oh please, I bet he can sing as well as a crow." Charles crossed his arms. Thomas stood up. "Let me tell you, that his singing voice is the most heavenly thing you're ever gonna hear."
"Hah, suuure. I'll be in the judge if that." Charles said and went backstage because the auditions started. Peggy followed him.
Thomas listened in the back. It become James' turn. Thomas smiled with pride when James grabbed the mike.
James started singing. With a quiet and shaky voice. "Damn it James, don't let your fears take over you.." Thomas whispered to himself. James eventually started singing louder and the shakiness disappeared from his voice. After he was done he quickly ran backstage.
Thomas ran to find him. "James?" James was drinking water by the exit door. "Hey Thomas! Did I do well?" Thomas hugged him. "You did great! So much better that Charles." James smiled and pulled away from the hug. "Let's go to the library now." Thomas nodded.
They arrived at the library. James picked himself a thick book and Thomas picked a comic book. James chuckled at him. "Shouldn't you study?" "Naah." Thomas ruffled James' hair. "Stop it, I'm not a kid." James got up. "You were majoring in English right?" Thomas nodded. "That is correct." "I'll get you some books to study from." James went between the shelves, looking for books.
Thomas leaned back with his chair. "God James, you're such a book nerd." He chewed on gum. After five minutes of waiting he started getting impatient. He got up and went to look for James. "If you're messing with me, I swear to God, it's not funny." He walked around and heard someone talking. It was Charles. His voice was really seductive.
"He's tryna hit on some girls again. How needy can person get.." He stood behind a shelf, eavesdropping on Charles.
"Come on Jamie, it doesn't hurt. I promise it won't. Taste just a little bit." Thomas listened to Charles speak.
"Nnnooo.." A tired cry echoed in Thomas' ears. He heard a thump and a chuckle. He was frozen on the spot.
"D-did Lee hurt James.." He looked around the corner and didn't see James. "Oh no..James?!" Someone tapped his shoulder. "Thomas? Why are you yelling?" James asked. "J-James? I thought Lee-" "Thomas, I'm fine. I just got you a book." James handed him an English book. "Well..thank you." Thomas took it. "Are you sure you're ok?" "Yes Thomas." James sounded annoyed. He turned around and walked away from Thomas.
Thomas stared after him. "Ok..?"/Credit to my friends who helped me come up with ideas for this chapter. They came up with the ending. Also, this is the longest chapter I've yet written/
