I lie in bed, listening to the pitter patter of heavy rain outside. It’s almost midday, but I haven’t moved an inch- until my phone rings beside me, forcing me to pick it up.
“Hello?” A familiar voice comes from the other side of the line,
“Hi,” I reply hesitantly.
“Babe, are you still mad at me?”
I hesitate again to answer. Micky and I have been dating for the past 4 months, but the last week or so hasn’t exactly been pleasant. Being in a boyband, he gets mobbed by screaming girls almost everywhere he goes. I found out he was out with the band last weekend, and ended up getting a little too flirty with a girl.
“Yes I am Mick,” I state firmly, drilling into his head he isn’t going to be forgiven this easily.
“I got a bit drunk. You know I love you more than anything…”
It’s been the same stupid excuse.
“Yeah, sure, whatever,” I hold back my tears. Maybe with his career and all, I’m just not right for him.
“Please, open the door and I’ll explain this all and make it up to you. I’m not leaving till I get to see your beautiful face again, no matter how this ends,”
What? He must be joking! It’s pouring outside; he can’t possibly…
I quickly dash to the front door, keeping silent promises I won’t fall for his apologies that easily.
I take a deep breath, and open the door, to find Micky standing there, soaking wet.
I stand dazed, refraining myself from giving him a tight hug. Truth is, I’ve really missed him in the last week.
“I’m…I’m very sorry Emily.” He stumbles out. “I shouldn’t have gotten drunk that night, and now I really regret it. I can’t lose you, you mean the world to me, and you know there isn’t anyone else I love more. Please forgive me?”
Even in the rain, I can see the tears welling up in his eyes.
I feel the tears rolling down my face, honestly feeling a little guilty about not believing him earlier. He came over in the pouring rain just to say sorry. Micky’s definitely a keeper.
I nod my head enthusiastically, and we exchange smiles- His perfect smile I haven’t seen in so long.
I step out into the rain, giving him a big bear hug. I smile at the thought of finally being in his arms again; of the strong scent of familiar aftershave, unwashed by the rain.
“I love you,” I whisper, tilting my head up to meet his gaze.
“I love you too Emily,” He responds with a grin.
He leans down and gently cups my face with his hands, planting his soft lips on mine.
The butterflies in my stomach throw a party, as we kiss passionately in the pouring rain.
