I feel like I'm flying for the rest of the week. Cas and Naomi show no sign of getting back together, and Cas pays all of his attention to me. He's constantly late for lunch, but I hardly even notice anymore. We make plans to go looking for parts on Saturday, deciding to take the entire day to look around and maybe even get some work in on the car. Dad calls halfway through the week to say that this job will probably take him a week or so more.
Everything I perfect.
Friday, as me and Alfie walk to lunch together, I decide on something.
"Hey man, do you mind if I sit with my brother today? I haven't done that yet since school started and I'd really like to."
"Sure," Alfie agrees immediately. "That's totally fine- as long as I can come with? I love to meet your brother."
I grin and nod at him. "That'd be great. I think he sit outside, so we'll probably find him there."
"Okay," he says cheerfully. We head into the cafeteria and grab out lunches, then head out to look for Sam.
"He has really long hair and these, like , puppy dog eyes," I explain as we glance around for him. "Like, weirdly ling hair. I keep telling him to cut it but he just whines about wanting 'express himself' or some crap like that. And he'll be wearing plaid."
Alfie laughs and rolls his eyes. "Whatever, man."
We look around for another few minutes but I don't see him. I do, however, hear Cas' voice. Alfie's eyes widen slightly as he hears his brother as well.
"What's he doing out here?" he whispers, sounding concerned.
I shoot a glance at him, confused by the concern on his face. "Dunno. But maybe he's seen Sam. Lets I find him."
"Yes," Alfie says absently, still looking and sounding concerned. "Find him."
"C'mon." I pull Alfie in the direction of Cas' voice, around to the side of the school. He's not alone. Crowley, Hester, Michael, and Adam are with him, all standing in a weirdly tight circle, snickering with their heads down. Alfie freezes but I barely notice.
"Cas!" I call, a grin lighting my face. Cas' whole body stiffens up and he jerks around to face me.
"Dean?" He breathes. "Dean what are you doing out here?"
"Well I'm looking for my kid brother..." My eyes wander past him to the now slightly open circle and what's in the center.
Sam.
Sam is in the middle of the circle, curled up in a ball. His arms are curled protectively around his head, his whole body tense. As I watch in what seems to be slow motion, he uncurls a tiny bit, uncovering his face and cracking his eyes open. His lip is bleeding, I note distantly. I feel oddly disconnected from my body.
Then Castiel speaks. Just my name, quietly and quizzically, but it's enough to break me out of my trance.
My eyes snap to his face and suddenly I'm in a completely different mode. I glance at him, find the weakest points of his body, and launch myself at him.
I think I must move fast because everyone else seems to be in slow motion. All the angels start moving towards me, obviously confused about whether they should attack me or not. I use the hesitation to find a firm hold in the feathers of Castiel's left wing and, just as I was taught, I jerk down, hard. I know from experience that that spot is particularly sensitive and it does, indeed, send him to his knees with a pained cry.
Alfie is yelling something in the background and the other angels are staring slack jawed at me. While Castiel is down, hunched over in agony, I jerk on the spot again, and when he arches his back to instinctively try and get away from it I bring my knee up, connecting it with his chin with a satisfying thunk. The numbness continues to spread through me as I haul him to his feet, then slam his back against the wall as hard as I can.
